Established as a community non-profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. The Center is sex-positive and provides advocacy and critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life, focusing on our deeply held values of equity, social justice, and client-centered, trauma-informed care. The Center currently has over 75 staff working at five facilities across San Diego County.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Training and Community Education Manager, the Training & Community Educator position is responsible for developing and implementing the work of Stop The Hate (STH) Program and The Center’s Opioid and Stimulant Use Prevention and Recovery Services (OSUPRS), a Training Institute program dedicated to increasing the capacity of the regions ability to serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and two-spirit (LGBTQ2S+) individuals seeking recovery-oriented services, hate incidents, hate violence, and hate crime reporting. The responsibilities include facilitating training opportunities for service providers about prevention and education for hate incidents, hate violence, hate crime reporting, and substance use in LGBTQ2S+ communities, focusing on opioid and stimulant use. This position will also facilitate other LGBTQ2S+-related curricula and training to support the Training Institute.

 

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate training, educational materials, and other programs that address hate incidents, hate violence, hate crime reporting, and substance use in LGBTQ2S+ communities.
  • Increase LGBTQ2S+ prevention, education activities, and programs for hate incidents, hate violence, hate crime reporting, and opioid use disorder and/or stimulant use disorder services.
  • Track quantitative data on the number of individuals served and types of prevention/education services provided.
  • Cultivate partnerships and work with organizations, service providers, and community experts to develop and continuously improve training and educational materials.
  • Collaborate with the Communications department to expand The Center’s Be The Generation (#BTG) campaign to include prevention and education information about hate crime reporting and substance use in LGBTQ2S+ communities, with a focus on opioid and stimulant use.
  • Develop and facilitate other LGBTQ2S+-related curricula and training to support all aspects of the Training Institute

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Education and/or Experience: Two years of experience in curriculum design, training, and facilitation. Background experience in mental health degree is not required.
  • Computer/Office Equipment Skills:
  • Must be comfortable working in PC/Windows-based environments.
  • Must have strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Google Survey, Canva/Prezi, Zoom, and other training tools used for in-person/online training.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English required.
  • Work Location: Must be available to do in-person, virtual, and blended training and programs.
  • Other Skills:
  • Must demonstrate expertise in hate incidents, hate violence, hate crime reporting, substance use, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), harm reduction, and LGBTQ2S+ communities.
  • Must demonstrate patience, compassion, and creativity in supporting others in their learning process.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
  • Those with lived experience as a member of a historically under-served community (i.e., low-income, communities of color, LGBTQ2S+ communities, immigrant communities, etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Other Skills: DEI: We value working with native communities and people of color.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Compensation: The pay range for this position is $23.00-25.00 and is commensurate with experience. This is a Full-Time Regular Exempt
