Full-Time Traffic Engineer

Job Description

raffic Engineers are responsible for performing complex traffic engineering work involving the application of advanced technical engineering knowledge to the design and operation of the City’s transportation system. Typically, SSL traffic engineers are assigned a geographic section in the City in which they manage the existing and future assets in that area.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Authorize changes to the City’s transportation system performed by in-house work crews
  • Provide project management and/or review and monitoring traffic design and analysis work by outside consultants, including development-initiated work as related to traffic
  • Design and review plans and specifications for traffic control devices, transportation infrastructure, traffic signals, streetlights,
  • Manage construction or maintenance projects
  • Perform and/or review traffic analyses
  • Select traffic signal phasing and timing to maximize efficiency and safety for all modes of transportation
  • Create as-builts and evaluate assets
  • Investigate and resolve traffic safety and operations problems
  • Prepare and deliver presentations of technical data and results
  • Serve as an expert witness
  • Ensure that traffic signals and streetlights are planned, designed, constructed, operated, and maintained to standards set by the division and the City
  • Oversee, coordinate, and review the work of support staff, technical, and junior level engineering staff, and inspect field installations by contractors and city personnel
