Position location: Washington, DC area candidates preferred (including both DC office-based candidates and DC-based remote candidates). Waltham, MA, and U.S.-based remote candidates also considered.
The International Development Division has an opening for an International Monitoring, Evaluation and Research Assistant (I) reporting to a Research Associate on the International Development Division’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Research (MER) Team in Washington, DC. This position will support monitoring and evaluation of international projects in basic education, youth and workforce development and health, with a focus on francophone countries. There is significant opportunity for growth in this position for an individual with initiative to build skills, gain experience and take on increasing levels of responsibility.
Tasks may involve international travel. Excellent qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis skills, as well as strong writing skills in English are required.
The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.
Under management oversight, the International Monitoring, Evaluation and Research Assistant (I) provides support to qualitative &/or quantitative investigation efforts:
- Contributes to the design, implementation, analysis, dissemination of findings, and reports of monitoring, evaluation, and research tools, procedures, and studies through use of a variety of methodologies and approaches,
- Coordinates work between staff internally and externally, in US and international offices, and on different technical teams
- Learns advanced features of software to program electronic data collection tools
- Supports development and proposal work to help EDC get new projects
- Leads internal initiatives on the M&E team and/or on non-M&E technical working groups
- Assists in hiring project and home office M&E staff, including resume screens and interview processs
Qualifications
This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills; strong organizational skills; and eagerness to learn and grow. Specific requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education & experience
- 2–4 years related research experience, education or administrative coordination, experience with computer applications (including databases) and Internet research
- Knowledge of statistics platforms such as SPSS required
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent combination of training & education in a related field preferred, including training in statistics, and qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
- Experience with electronic data collection platforms such as Kobo Collect or ODK
- Experience withdata visualization tools such as Power BI
- Experience working with teams in low- and middle-income countries
- Proficiency in Spanish, French, or Arabic
