Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Education professor in the Teacher Education program. The Bachelor of Applied Science in Teacher Education (BASTE) program offers an accessible and affordable bachelor’s degree. The program serves cohort groups of students who obtain the degree of BASTE with Teacher Certification in pre-school through 8th grade. The successful candidate will lead the current faculty in the BASTE department and collaborate with the Early Childhood Education (ECE) department that enjoys a long and rich history of serving the early learning workforce needs in Southwest Washington. Clark College offers a variety of educational pathways including state stackable ECE certificates, an Associate of Applied Science degree in ECE and the BASTE degree with endorsements in Preschool – 3rd grade, Kindergarten – 8th Grade, Special Education, Early Childhood Special Education, and Bilingual Education. These pathways also include partnerships with local K-12 school districts, state-wide organizations, and our local Education Service District (ESD 112).
The BASTE degree offers greater job and wage opportunities through initial WA state teacher certification and endorsements. The BASTE program provides hands-on training in the Child and Family Studies program on campus and includes residency in various public schools in the service area. The program develops teacher candidates who lead with racial equity, cultural responsiveness, and support the learning needs and development of children preschool through 8th grade. Our teacher candidates train to meet the needs of each child as an individual and as a member of their familial and social community. This position requires the candidate to work collaboratively with faculty and administration to oversee a variety of requirements including the Professional Education Standards Board (PESB), and internal college processes such as enrollment, advising, and teaching. Teaching responsibilities include various instructional methods, including on-line and face-to-face. This position receives release time to work with the Data Certification Program Manager while teaching up to 5 credits quarterly.
This position begins September 13, 2024.

FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instruct all classes as an expert in the discipline using active learning approaches that both engage and facilitate student learning.
- Advise and assist students in their educational and career development.

- Obtain and maintain Professional-Technical Certification requirements.
- Participate in program, curriculum development and assessment activities.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach BASTE courses grounded in developmental theory and active teaching methodologies.
- Work with faculty, staff, administration, and internal and external partnerships, to promote the successful operation, continuous improvement, and growth of the BASTE program.
- Respond to teaching and learning practices using data, assessment, and analysis.
- Demonstrate Power, Privilege and Inequity knowledge and competence and affirming commitment to equity and diversity in the learning environment.
- Build professional relationships with mentor teachers, and other school district personnel.
- Evaluate BASTE teacher candidates’ progress toward teaching competencies required by the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB).
- Work collaboratively with faculty to support the BASTE teacher candidates in completing their portfolio of competencies that satisfy standards.
- Facilitate the Professional Educators Advisory Board (PEAB), which includes collaborating with the Clark College Advisory Coordinator to plan PEAB meetings, recruiting new members, reviewing, and updating bylaws and yearly work plans and following guidance from the PESB.
- Implement a variety of active teaching strategies using disciplinary knowledge, diverse theories, and issues and trends in learning.
- Analyze course assessments, evaluation, and data, engaging in continuous improvement of courses with a focus on retention and completion.
- Building relationships with students through advising, teaching, and mentoring from recruitment through completion.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in education, Early Childhood Education, or Special Education.
- Three (3) years of classroom teaching experience with children Kindergarten – 8th grade OR three (3) years of higher education teaching experience in an education field.
COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to bring relevance from teaching children to adult teaching environments.
- Familiarity with PESB outcomes and student teaching requirements and implementation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theories.
- Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to inclusivity, and cultural responsiveness.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of current education theories and practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of coaching and mentoring skills.
- Knowledge of Special Education and Bilingual education theory.
Supplemental Information
SALARY STATEMENT:
Starting salary is $78,327 (non-negotiable). Faculty may be eligible to advance every other year; current top step is $110,332. Salary is for a 173-day contract; additional compensation is available for summer and moonlight teaching, and doctoral and vocational stipends.
