Full-Time Technical Service Provider – Grazing and Agroforestry
Job Description
This position will lead the efforts in southern Wisconsin to increase landowners’ engagement in Farm Bill programs and improve the ability of local and state agencies, as well as Tribal Nations, to deliver agroforestry technical support with an emphasis on grazing and silvopasture. This position will work closely with other members of our Agroforestry Adoption team.

Start Date: May 2023
Salary: $57,000 – $62,000
– This position is eligible for the Institute’s benefits package. Benefits for full-time employees include 30 days paid time off per year, a Health Reimbursement arrangement that can be applied to insurance premiums and approved healthcare costs, and a monthly home office stipend.
– This position will report to the TSP Team Manager
– This position will require travel using a personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement
Duties/Responsibilities
● Consult with farmers & landowners to develop plans for agroforestry practices based on their goals, with a focus on farmers interested in incorporating trees into grazing systems
● Write grazing plans and design subsequent silvopasture systems that reflect best practices and desired outcomes
● Assist farmers with accessing Farm Bill programs for technical and financial assistance for grazing and agroforestry
● Assist in implementing and reporting on USDA-funded grant agreements as well as coordinate program evaluation and development
● Assist with development of educational resources and present at workshops and other SI events on agroforestry, grazing, and silvopasture
● Other duties as assigned to provide robust grazing knowledge as part of the Agroforestry Adoption Team as a Technical Service Provider
Required Qualifications
● Experience in grazing, forestry, or other related agricultural practices
● Strong interpersonal communication skills
● Experience with GIS or equivalent tools
● Commitment to participating in a collaborative environment
● Experience working with a high degree of autonomy and accountability
● Experience with Farm Bill programs or other programs that provide technical and financial support
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business or nonprofit experience in an agriculture or environmental field
● Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for work-related travel
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience with rotational grazing and the application of agroforestry in grazing systems (silvopasture)
● Experience with client management
● Experience with livestock management
