Full-Time Tax Analyst – Automation
Job Description
Avalara is looking for a Communications Automation Analyst that will partner with Tax Compliance to deliver process and product automation solutions. In this role, you will contribute to Avalara’s tax and compliance automation strategies while enhancing the overall experience of the service.
*We’re opening this role to candidates located in commuting distance from our Durham, NC office as this will be a hybrid role.*

Job Duties
- Developing technical skills to use AI and RPA tools.
- Engage cross functionally to drive and delivery process automation.
- Data Analysis and special projects
- Fluent in our product setup and review of settings with customers
- Prep and file indirect tax returns and/or license/registrations (< 20% of time)
- Understand and apply jurisdiction knowledge as part of the tax compliance services delivered
- Engage with state and local jurisdictions to understand technology changes that enable or impact seamless automation & integration with government systems.
- Drive prioritization and delivery of product and/or process enhancements that increase efficiency and reduce risk.
Qualifications
- Agile balance of technology savvy (70%) and tax technical (30%)
- Fluent in RPA tools such as Microsoft Power Automate and UiPath
- Deadline driven – we have immovable deadlines that are very time compressed.
- Ability to learn and apply new technologies across the spectrum of registration and reporting requirements and impact/consequence of non-compliance.
- Collaborative, highly team oriented and able to build cross team relations
- Accountability and ownership
- Strong attention to detail
Education:
- College education w/ preferred major in Finance, accounting, mathematics, economics, or computer sciences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of related experience with a Master’s degree, or equivalent
- General accounting, Finance, Compliance or Tax reporting within a corporate setting or within banking or financial services related industries
- Implementation of accounting, financial management or tax automation systems
- Working for a State or local department of Revenue (DOR) with taxpayer registration and/or reporting responsibilities.
- Process automation using RPA (robotic process automation)
