Job Description
Concord Recreation is seeking Swim Aides. The Swim Aide Program builds talent pipelines by investing in and transforming candidates to be a strong and confident Water Safety Instructor. Under the supervision of the Aquatics Program Supervisor, the Swim Aide is responsible for assisting certified Water Safety Instructors during lessons with stroke development, water introduction, water safety, and other duties designated by the Water Safety Instructor (WSI). This position will work only under the supervision of a certified Water Safety Instructor. Hours and schedule will vary with total hours ranging from 2-18 hours/ week. Pay rate: $15.00 per hour.

Appointment of the final candidate will be contingent upon the results of pre-placement conditions including CORI and SORI checks. Costs of these pre-placement requirements will be borne by the Town.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position will work only under the supervision of a certified Water Safety Instructor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Assist aquatic instructors during swim classes.
- Be prepared for class. Have all equipment available and ready prior to swim class. Assist in putting away all equipment after swim classes.
- Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the Beede and the Town of Concord’s standards at all times.
- Ensure a clean and safe pool environment at all times.
- Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand each individual’s goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
- Attend mandatory monthly in-service training.
- May be required to work one on one with individual students during group classes.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
None.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Age 15+ (work permit needed)
- No experience necessary
- After completing required swim aide hours, complete WSI certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of aquatic facilities, procedures and equipment. Thorough
working knowledge of and ability to perform lifesaving techniques, CPR and First Aid.
Ability to swim.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the public, including children and
young adults, in a courteous and tactful manner and to fairly and tactfully enforce facility
rules and regulations.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate physical effort is generally required which involves frequent lifting of between 30 and 60 pounds. Regularly required to walk, swim, stand, crouch, reach, crawl, climb, talk, sit, watch and hear for extended periods of time. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges.
