Full-Time Surveying Engineering Technician III
Job Description
- Use conventional surveys, CADD equipment and GPS to provide advanced technical work supporting higher-level technicians/engineers by serving as survey crew leader providing base mapping for highway design functions.
- Perform a moderate-to-complex assignments analyzing computing, editing, processing, and recommending corrective actions for data sources.
- Review completed field data and CADD mapping prepared by a NCDOT survey party to insure completeness and accuracy.
- Apply your decision making skills and use of judgment directing the work of others.
- Ensure survey crew safety during field operations.
- Experience reading, understanding, interpreting, and applying NCDOT procedures, policies, and data provided through CADD files, plans sheets, and maps related to engineering/land surveying.
- Experience planning, directing, overseeing, and leading the work of lower-level technicians in survey field/office work.
- Skills working with survey equipment (i.e. total stations and GNSS receivers).
- Computer skills in CADD software developing maps/plans.
- Knowledge of standards, principles, and practices of surveying in North Carolina mapping aerial imagery stereoscopically in 3 dimensions and accurately interpreting planimetric/terrain features.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or related discipline, and
- 3+ years progressive technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
