The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Surveying Technician to join our Weaverville Resident Engineering team.
In this role, you will:
    • Perform survey work on complex construction projects.
    • Supervise survey crews and junior technicians.
    • Make independent decisions.
    • Review contractor’s survey submittals and provide checks of their construction layouts in the field.
    • Drive and place survey stakes and operate surveying instruments.
    • Cut brush.
    • Run materials tests and inspect roadway/bridge projects.
    • Ensure all work is done in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • Serve as a survey crew member.
 
What You Bring
    • Surveying experience using surveying equipment, instruments, levels, data collectors, and GPS equipment.
    • Solid math skills using with math functions including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
    • Experience performing highway construction stakeouts.
    • Experience conducting independent, moderately complex surveying.
    • Computer skills using Microsoft Office and drafting software.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • Good eyesight to use testing instruments, read plan details, make accurate field measurements, and inspect roadway and structure components.
    • Ability to perform entry level technical work on materials and perform sampling testing and inspections to determine specifications.
    • Ability to exercise limited decision making and judgment.
    • Ability to safely perform manual tasks involving the use of bush axes and other tools on steep slopes and rough terrain.
    • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions, terrains, and hours.
    • Strength to lift 50 pounds.
    • Safety toe shoes.
 
Education & Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
    • 7+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
Note
    • You will be exposed to high traffic volumes, work at heights over water and traffic, and climb on bridge substructures/superstructures.
