Job Description

YMCA DOWNSLINK GROUP

Support and Advice Worker (Wellbeing) – Crawley

Location: Crawley, West Sussex, UK

Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2022

22 Hours per week

£23,355 per annum (pro-rata)

£14,013 per annum (actual)

YAC Crawley provides young people (aged 11-25) from Crawley and surrounding areas with information, advice, guidance and counselling services. We are seeking an experienced youth worker to join our rapidly growing YMCA DLG Youth Advice Centre (YAC) team in Crawley.

The successful applicant will be experienced in supporting children and young people using a trauma-informed and culturally competent approach, which may suit someone who has previously held a support worker, youth worker or social worker role, or who has worked within a specific remit working with young people from under-served communities.

You will be joining an experienced multi-disciplinary team who deliver support services to young people across West Sussex. You will be located primarily within the Youth Advice Centre, which is part of the YMCA Crawley Foyer building, but you will also be encouraged to develop strong partnerships with other local youth services where you may be able to co-locate.

We understand that young people from BAME and LGBTQU+ communities are disproportionately affected by youth homelessness and mental health issues and that this issue is compounded by a lack of representation from these communities within the workforce. As such, we would particularly welcome applicants from the under-served communities this role hopes to reach.

The position comes with excellent benefits, including 27 days annual leave per annum (plus bank holidays), a company sick pay scheme, a life assurance policy of 2x your annual salary, a health and wellbeing cash plan, and a cycle to work scheme. Please download a job pack for more information about other benefits offered.

If you are an applicant interested in this post and would like an informal discussion having read the job pack, you can speak to the Recruiting Manager. Please email

and your query will be forwarded.

YMCA DownsLink Group welcomes applications from all sections of the community. We value diversity and promote inclusion, which we demonstrate through our activities, as well as in our policies and working practices. Reinforced by our culture and values, we seek to create an inspiring and inclusive place to work.

YMCA DLG requires all staff and volunteers to be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and to respond proactively to safeguarding concerns. Successful applicants are required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
