Summary:
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) will ensure that suppliers deliver quality parts, components, and materials in accordance to international and Weber quality standards. Ensure outsourced product adheres to various types of mechanical, chemical and electrical specifications. Conduct supplier audits to assist in the assessment of new supplier qualification and outsourced product qualification. Collaborate, communicate and resolve supplier-related problems as they occur. Perform internal audits at Weber as required to ensure process and procedures are being adhered to. Participate in new product qualification. Evaluate suppliers’ internal functions to assess their overall performance and will provide feedback in assessment of their operation. Some domestic and international travel will be required by this position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Make written and verbal recommendations to improve quality systems
- Have a good working knowledge of ISO 9000 style quality systems
- Obtain, understand and apply company quality and engineering standards to purchased products
- Compare drawings and specifications to product or part manufactured and determine compliance
- Verify inspection and sampling techniques at supplier
- Prepare inspection plans agendas and reports
- Maintain computer database on all concerned activities
- Compute data summarize results and prepare reports and or charts depicting specific supplier information
- Track action plans from supplier audits and assessments and monitor their activity and effectiveness of completion and corrections
- Resolution of supplier manufacturing/process/quality issues and associated corrective actions
- Supplier Development and Maintenance
- Develop and collaborate with global suppliers on improving quality for new and existing purchased parts
- Drive continuous process improvement (CPI) activities at suppliers using various systems, such as Value Stream Mapping (VSM) Kaizen , PFMEA, Control Plans, and 8Ds
- Issuing formal supplier corrective actions (SCARs) and work with them to resolve problems
- Conduct on site supplier audits, facilitate meetings, capture deliverables, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
- Serve as the technical liaison between Weber and its suppliers
- Assist in the selection of new suppliers and support buyers to obtain the best value components in relation to quality, delivery and cost
Requirements:
- Familiar with quality systems such as ISO, QS9000, PPAP.
- Familiar with metrology and measuring techniques.
- Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to create histograms and Cpk studies for process and part capability studies.
- High level of proficiency in MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, Access)
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be willing to travel when required. 30 to 40 % annual travel required.
- Must have the ability to make on the spot decisions regarding degree of acceptability of a part, assembly or raw material.
- Working knowledge of statistical process control through of Six Sigma processes
- Working knowledge of SAP desired
- Strong TS16949 background (preferred)
- BS in Engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Engineering, QA or Manufacturing environment.
