Full-Time Supervisor of Student Success

Job Description

Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York.  Seeking innovative professionals from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds to fill the position of Supervisor of Student Success to join the open and welcoming Center for Academic and Professional Excellence (CAPE) team.

The Supervisor of Student Success is responsible for providing professional academic support to students to help them persist through graduation by providing academic coaching and informal advising; administering the academic warning system; and offering individual student retention support.  The coordinator meets with English Language Learners to develop plans to assess skills, assign appropriate academic support services and develop opportunities for skill-building.  The position supports the functions and programs of the Center for Academic & Professional Excellence and Academic Affairs to include outreach, monitoring of student progress, and annual assessment.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide and oversee Academic Success Coaching and outreach for at-risk students;
  • Meet regularly (weekly and bi-weekly) with individual students identified as at-risk or in need of support, to build and implement academic and personal success goals;
  • Provide academic advocacy for students by reporting persistent issues to the Director of CAPE;
  • Coordinate with the Student Athlete Academic Support Coach to streamline Success Coaching services and resources; serve as a testing proctor as needed;
  • Maintain and oversee Early Alert system (EAB Navigate) and other academic warning systems;
  • Provide outreach to students on financial holds and non-registered students; at-risk students;
  • Create programming based on students’ needs and wants in collaboration with the CAPE team;
  • Oversee and administer the English Language Learner (ELL) program by providing academic support through assessment and granting of testing modifications, communicating with instructors, and meeting regularly with ELL students to monitor their progress and adjust modifications;
  • Teach a 6-credit course load spread across the academic year;
  • Provide assessment data for Success Coaching, ELL, and other Student Success programming;
  • Create comprehensive reports for VPs, in collaboration with CAPE team as needed or as requested;
  • Support Student Success and Career Services programs and initiatives that may include scheduling and training peer tutors, teaching an academic skills course, as well as other tasks related to the College’s student academic support programs;

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s or some graduate work recommended;
  • Great organizational skills;
  • Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft office suite, Google, including Gmail, Recommended: knowledge of Google Sheets and MailMeteor. Ability to learn new software quickly;
  • Some experience with college undergraduate students is helpful, but not required;
  • Experience or desire to work with students with special needs; and
  • Ability to multi-task.

Basis of Pay: Hourly

Working Conditions:

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with frequent staff, student, faculty contact and interruptions. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, reach, and twist; to carry, push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard and mouse.
