- Cary’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources department is seeking a creative, organized and energetic Studio Arts Program Assistant to join our fast-paced creative team!
This position will play an essential role in supporting the Studio Arts Programs at the Cary Arts Center. The Studio Arts Program Assistant will be responsible for general administrative work as well as database maintenance, inventory, special projects, marketing, and other specialized duties related to the Art Studios. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor – Art Studios.
Work will require a flexible schedule which will require consistent weekday availability and may require occasional evening and weekend availability as needed.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Typical Tasks
- Performs regular email, telephone and/or personal contact with staff, instructors, and the public.
- Processes and inputs data (work in Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Uses town computer systems; specifically, ePact to help monitor emergency/inclusion-based needs of participants, and RecTrac for programming needs.
- Assists with design, production, and/or distribution of marketing materials.
- Coordinates with supervisor to order, pick-up, and/or distribute materials for program/studio needs
- Helps organize, clean, and maintain various studio areas as assigned.
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- General knowledge of computers and related software (Microsoft Office 365).
- General knowledge of standard office practices and procedures.
- Ability to remain organized, multitask, and work independently.
- Ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline.
- Ability to communicate with the public and coworkers tactfully and constructively.
- Ability to understand effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to lift/move heavy objects (up to 50lbs).
- Ability to acquire knowledge of Cary’s policies, procedures and the services of the department.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
- Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED.Preference will be given to candidates who possess any of the following:
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a Studio Art area, Arts Education, or a related field.
- Some experience in an administrative or clerical position.
- Some experience creating virtual marketing materials and signage such as ads, flyers, and posters.
- Some experience in studio/community art.
Physical Requirements
Work in this class requires an employee to be able to hear and talk in order to communicate with public. An employee must be able to walk unassisted and move about freely. Requires the ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) such as studio equipment (pottery wheels, kilns, etc.) and studio furniture (shelving, tables, chairs, etc.). Visual acuity is needed in order to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal. Part of the work is clerical in nature and may require sitting and use of a computer for extended periods of time.Conditions of Employment
