Part-Time Student Engagement Librarian

Job Description

Position Summary:

The Karrmann Library at UW Platteville seeks a Student Engagement Librarian. This position leads library efforts in student engagement, fostering a sense of campus community through library outreach and programs. This position works with library colleagues and other student success units on campus to support and enhance the first year and undergraduate student experience, and contribute to recruitment, retention, and student success efforts. This librarian is part of a team that delivers information literacy instruction and research expertise to students, faculty, staff, and community members. 

Additionally, this position provides a wide variety of the most advanced professional library services which may include teaching, learning, public services, circulation, assessment, reference, selection, and outreach to support creative exploration, intellectual growth, and scholarly pursuits. Serves as a resource to others and regularly solves complex problems based on advanced knowledge and expertise. Initiates process improvements, policy changes, and new initiatives to contribute towards continual improvement in services and operations.

This is an 80%, benefit, and paid leave eligible position (benefits and paid leave are prorated to percent of appointment). Wage for this position is $40,000 – $44,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a liaison to academic disciplines and/or other campus units providing information on collections, instructional and research support, and library services.
  • Cultivates and maintains productive relationships with donors, collectors, vendors, and professional colleagues.
  • Obtains materials, resolves issues, and answers questions that are complex and highly specialized in nature.
  • Designs, develops, delivers, and assesses instruction in a variety of formats to faculty, staff, students, and other patrons.
  • Provides specialized services utilizing a high level of expertise on a broad range of disciplines or in a designated discipline area.
  • Develops or coordinates specialized projects or programs.
  • Oversees day-to-day functions of one or more library operations or services.
  • Serves as a resource to other librarians and staff outside of their unit on a regular basis.
  • Initiates and solicits input to modify policies, procedures, and assessment tools to improve workflows and/or user experiences.
  • Serves on committees to advance librarianship at the campus, local, and/or state and national levels.
  • May direct the day-to-day activities of student workers.
  • Develops, curates, and manages collections.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Master of Library Services (MLS)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Prior experience with Microsoft office suite
  • Bibliographic Instruction experience a plus
  • Familiarity with ALMA a plus
