Job Summary
Lays out, installs, remodels, and maintains pipe systems for heating/chilling water hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and steam systems within power houses, distribution systems and buildings to ensure adequate, safe, and operable institutional facilities.
Performs all duties in a professional manner, with an emphasis on customer service and serves as a model representative of the Department of Facility Services, the Division of Finance and Administrative Affairs, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
This position is not eligible for hybrid work and requires 100% onsite work.
Minimum Qualifications
• Completion of an apprenticeship approved by the Department of Workforce Development as a steamfitter OR formal recognition of status by the appropriate international or local trade organization or some type of similar formal validation of journey status.
• Demonstrated work experience in each of the following areas:
• Welding, brazing and soldering experience AND
• Installation of industrial and commercial heating and ventilation systems AND
• Repair and service of all types of heating and cooling systems
• Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver license (or other such valid operator’s permit recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation) and be able to meet or exceed the minimum requirements for driving on state business as detailed here: https://uwm.edu/risk-management/drivers/
• Requires the ability to lift loads up to 90 lbs. and carry loads up to 64 lbs. short distances
• Push or pull of heavy equipment up to 100 lbs. of force.
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated work experience in the HVAC field in a university or a commercial setting
• Demonstrated experience in the installation and repair of powerhouse systems
• Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining energy conversation measures
• Evidence of strong customer service skills
• Welding Certifications

Finance & Administrative Affairs is required to conduct Post-Offer Pre-Employment screenings on the selected candidate for this role. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening.
