As the Stationery Design Director you will lead the stationery design at Papier by taking responsibility for strategy, research and conceptualising stationery designs that set trends within the stationery market. You will show strong design skills and extensive knowledge of lifestyle, stationery, illustration and typography trends to deliver the best-in-class stationery designs that are aligned with the overall creative vision.
You will foster and develop a team of talented stationery designers and continue to create an environment that is diverse, inclusive and agile. You will set the standards and find ways to develop the team to reach those standards and encourage a growth mindset to continuously improve by encouraging people to participate and learn from each other.
You are an established head of design, who has diverse experience in delivering lifestyle books.
Our mission is to become a category-defining stationery brand, this role requires having a creative vision and must be able to think outside of the box to deliver our design vision.
You’ll be brimming with creative energy, proposing new stationery design ideas to create exciting and constantly evolving designs to be pushing forward the brand all the time is a key aspect of this role.
Working closely with our Design Director, you will be an essential part of growing and developing Papier’s in-house design handwriting that transforms Papier into a global stationery lifestyle brand.
Responsibilities
● Create seasonal/yearly design strategy for the Stationery Design team
● Take an active role in ensuring best in class quality across all our stationery products
● Oversee the design process from concept to product development and ensure designs are ready for manufacturing at the quality and consistency we require across different printers around the globe
● Maintaining an awareness of emerging trends, new ideas, and translating these into designs to development to ensure it’s ready for production
● Collaborate with Buying Director and Head of Commercial Planning to deliver ranges that are commercial yet push design forward
● Coordinate and communicate seasonal stationery product design concepts to the key stakeholders within the business from creative, commercial to marketing teams
● Work alongside other designers and departments to assist in the development of new designs, and effectively communicate with the team throughout this process
● Build, grow and lead the Stationery Design team that aligns with the functions
Requirements
● Established publishing experience in the lifestyle sector (stationery experience an added bonus)
● Proven track record of producing trend-setting designs and books
● Ability to give detailed and constructive feedback in design and for personal development of the team
● Excellent communicator who is open-minded and collaborates effectively
● Experience in working directly with printers
● A strong interest in print & stationery design with good knowledge of print techniques and print production
● Thorough attention to detail with excellent drawing and CAD skills
● Excellent design research & development skills
● Excellent Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
● Detail orientated, organised & able to multi-task with good time management skills
● Self-motivated, with the ability to work as part of a team as well as individually
● Flexibility and willingness to react quickly to changing demands of the business
