Full-Time State Signals Engineer
Job Description
- Perform supervisory and administrative functions for our Signals Design Section.
- Manage and direct 3 Regional Signal Design groups in preparing Plans, Specifications, and Estimate (PS&E) packages for projects requiring a wide variety of traffic signal designs.
- Manage and direct engineers in the design and review of traffic signal metal pole shop drawings and foundations.
- Oversee and approve statewide traffic signal design policies, procedures, and standards.
- Be our technical expert for all matters concerning Part 4 of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and the NC Supplement.
- Traffic engineering and traffic operations experience, including comprehensive understanding and application of the concepts, practices, and theories related to traffic signal design.
- Excellent teamwork skills to work with NCDOT staff, municipalities, private engineering firms, and contractors.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, skills, and knowledge through past supervisory experience.
- Communications skills to convey complex engineering concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, organized, and professional manner.
- Experience managing projects and/or programs.
- Experience supervising permanent employees, contractors, and/or consultants.
- A driver’s license for frequent statewide and occasional overnight travel.
- Ability to traverse rough terrain on roadside environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and
- 6+ years of relevant experience, and
- 4+ years of supervisory experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- We may require you to be registered as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
