Job Description
New Voices for Reproductive Justice (NVRJ) is a social change organization dedicated to the health and well-being of Black women, femmes, girls and folx. New Voices was founded in March 2004 and currently operates across Pennsylvania and Ohio with offices in Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Philadelphia. The New Voices vision is to expand the Reproductive Justice movement which is rooted in the fundamental Human Right of us all to control our bodies across the Rust Belt and Mid-Atlantic regions. As part of this expansion we are recruiting for the positions of:
STATE DIRECTOR
(Two positions – Pittsburgh or Philadelphia and Cleveland)
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
This position provides overall leadership for the organization’s administrative and operational activities in either Pennsylvania or Ohio while co-/leading the implementation of leadership programs, community organizing campaigns and policy advocacy agenda. The State Director is primarily responsible for leading NVRJ’s regional office operations and expanding its Reproductive Justice initiatives. Additionally, the State Director is required to act as a liaison between key stakeholders across the state and the organization. The State Director must implement a strategic vision that complements the organization’s movement-building goals in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The State Director must affirm the core principle of Reproductive Justice and Human Rights for Black women, femmes, girls & folx, women of color, and LGBTQIA+ people of color. They must be able to effectively discuss of Reproductive Justice issues and topics with diverse audiences.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborates with the President & CEO and other Leadership Team members on critical strategic, operational and programmatic endeavors.
Serves as the primary point of contact for the organization’s state and regionally-based leadership programs, state-level community organizing, regional networks, state/local partnerships, and state-based or state-related national stakeholders.
Supervises local and regional Staff by setting performance expectations, measuring performance results and communicating actively and consistently on region/state deliverables to each employee.
Collaborates with all Staff to deliver work in an effective, sustainable, and innovative manner.
Tracks and monitors NVRJ’s impact through quantitative and qualitative evaluation tools and also tracks program reporting requirements to deliver outcomes outlined in grants awarded.
Supports the Policy Team with relationship-building with policymakers, advancing the organization’s Reproductive Justice agenda, and providing leadership in critical state and national policy partnerships.
Works in direct collaboration with the related 501c4 organization, New Voices Action, and its leadership.
Develops the organization’s community organizing infrastructure by working closely with the Community Organizing Team to replicate and expand our Voice Your Vote! Project™, continuing our organizing coalitions – #DefendBlackWomen and #SayHERName and implementing our volunteer/membership program.
Supports base-building campaigns and provides guidance as needed on the ground in key cities and regions.
Implements the Reproductive Justice Leadership Network™ (RJLN), and provides direct supervision to the RJLN Facilitator, and supports the leadership development of the RJLN program participants.
Provides leadership in state/regional/local partnerships such as Patients to Advocates program based in Cleveland or coordination support for our COVID-19 Community Relief Initiative in multiple cities throughout each state and works closely with the Program Team to guide its implementation.
Supports the replication of leadership development programs such as the SistahSpeak! Youth Project™, Environmental Justice Leadership Exchange™ and initiatives such as Women of Color HERStory Month®.
Collaborates with the Communications Manager and other Staff to speak on behalf of NVRJ about specific local and regional projects and contributes content for use in communications and marketing materials and for NVRJ’s social media and digital organizing platforms.
Conducts and/or coordinates training on Reproductive Justice and other core NVRJ issues and topics.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, i.e. Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration.
5-7 years’ experience in a senior financial management role, partnering with the leadership team to plan, implement, and manage budgets; track financial activities, and compile complex financial reports for foundation and government agencies.
ACT 33/34 and FBI Clearances and valid PA driver’s license with clean driving record required.
OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Direct knowledge of non-profit management, operations, leadership development, program management, community outreach and engagement, policy advocacy and volunteer/member programs.
Must possesses excellent oral and written communications skills, be comfortable with public speaking when representing NVRJ and demonstrate outstanding relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
Entrepreneurial, results-driven, energetic, and able to maintain grace under fire.
Exhibits the ability to work independently and possess excellent time management skills.
Demonstrates passion, enthusiasm, motivation, commitment, integrity, humor, optimism, positivity, and the ability to inspire others to engage with New Voices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with database programs such as EveryAction.
