The Moakley Production Hub (MPH) is the on-campus cornerstone of the Department of Communication’s Film and Video Production (FVAP) major. The MPH serves as a home base for more than 120 FVAP majors, a gateway production facility for students from other majors, and a teaching environment for full- and part-time FVAP faculty.

Position Summary:

The film/video production engineer is responsible for supporting this invaluable departmental infrastructure by managing and maintaining more than a half-million dollars of MPH equipment. The film/video production engineer will provide in-class technical support to production faculty, supervise access to the MPH’s production and editing workspaces, and facilitate equipment loans outside regular class hours.

This is a full-time, 12 month exempt position that falls within the APA Union and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Essential Duties:

1. Support the equipment needs of faculty and students creating film/video narratives.2. Coordinate equipment purchase in cooperation with the Communication Studies chair and production faculty, and coordinate with faculty on classroom and external equipment use. Work with production faculty to identify, purchase, and integrate new and replacement production equipment.3. Manage the Moakley Production Hub at the Moakley Center, including the Control Room (M113), Studio Sound Stage A (M120), Edit Lab/Sound Stage B (M111), and all additional equipment. Develop best practices and procedures for equipment check-out and return, as well as the operation of the studios. Evaluate and streamline equipment check-out/in and inventory processes as needed.4. Support (or coordinate support for) all production classes during class sessions (up to 12 classes per semester).5. Maintain equipment, including small repairs.6. Provide engineering support for studio, livestreaming, and field productions.7. Identify and facilitate on-campus and local production experiences, such as BSU Athletics and other BSU organizations, as well as BTV Access.8. Manage student workers to allow FVAP student access to production and editing facilities outside of class times (including some evenings and weekends).9. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• One year of professional film/video production experience and/or live-streaming experience.
• Knowledge of video and audio production workflows, including lighting, sound, recording, editing, and post-production processes.
• In-depth knowledge of film/video technologies, equipment, and industry standards.
• Strong understanding of safety protocols and practices related to video equipment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail are essential.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and adapt to changing circumstances.
• Ability to build working relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and staff.
• Willingness to work occasional evenings and/or weekends to accommodate planned programming initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience incorporating inclusive, social and racial justice practices into workplace/campus activities.
• Three years of professional film/video production experience and/or live-streaming experience.
