The Center for Student Engagement was established to plan, implement, support, and cultivate opportunities, programs and experiences for Bridgewater State University students from pre-enrollment through commencement and transition to an active alumni status. Successful candidates will be staff members that can work collaboratively with their colleagues in CSE and across the university to meet the mission of the department in serving and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse campus community. The Center for Student Engagement executes its mission through:· Facilitating the university’s orientation and new student transition programs both prior to their enrollment and through their first semester at BSU.· Campus-wide program development, and advising roles, the department will offer students the chance to develop leadership skills and experience interpersonal interaction that will enhance their personal and academic lives.· Providing guidance to BSU’s 80+ student organizations, supports the planning and implementation of over 400 events per academic year (including 70+ planned by Program Council).· Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Rondileau Student Union, creating a welcoming environment for all members of the BSU community.· Building connections with families of students to ensure each student receives support in as many ways as possible.

Position Summary:

Fraternity and Sorority Life Community. The coordinator will work closely with student leaders from each of the FSL chapters and governing bodies to promote a positive and developmental culture within the FSL community.The coordinator will serve as a front-line in the coordination and communication of harm reduction and risk management within the FSL Community. The coordinator will implement leadership development programs for the FSL community, with a focus on the support of new members. The coordinator will also provide support for general student leadership development and provide programmatic support to summer new student transition programs.This position is an exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Essential Duties:

Student Development:

• Serve as the advisor to all FSL governing boards, including Interfraternity Council, National Panhellenic Council and Fraternity and Sorority Life Council.
• Utilize diversity and social justice practices to promote student success as it relates to student involvement and student leadership development.
• Coordinate student delegations traveling to conferences focused on Fraternity and Sorority Life, i.e., the NGLA, etc. Coordinate delegate selection and training and serve as administrative advisor for student travel.
• Manage evening and weekend events as necessary/assigned.
• Develop and implement intentional programs, services and activities on behalf of the Center for Student Engagement, that will meet the unique needs of targeted/designated student populations.

Program Coordination:

• In collaboration with appropriate student organizations, coordinate Panhellenic Recruitment Weekend, FSL Annual Awards, and Greek Week.
• Coordinate training and leadership development opportunities to mitigate risk within the FSL Community and to further develop the leadership skills of members of the community. This includes but is not limited to hazing prevention education, wellness, health & safety, bystander intervention, Greek Leadership and Development series and other applicable events and programs.
• Manage evening and weekend events as necessary/assigned.
• Develop and implement intentional departmental programs, activities and events that will meet the unique needs of all student populations.
• Assist in department-based programs for student leadership development. This may include the Leadership Institute, Leadership Summit conference, and population specific leadership programs.
• Assist and provide support for programs and events related to the transition and on-boarding of new students to the university.

Administrative:

• Assist the Assistant Director with the coordination of risk management and harm reduction processes for the FSL Community.
• Serve as a resource and point of contact for students, families/supporters, faculty/staff, alumni, extended community, and FSL Headquarters relating to the development and support of Fraternities and Sororities recognized at BSU.
• Serve on divisional and university committees as assigned.
• Monitor assigned budgets to ensure appropriate and efficient use of resources.
• Plan and implement assessment efforts that inform data driven decision making for the programs, services and activities related to student programming. Support overall department assessment efforts for established learning outcomes across the department around student involvement and student leadership development. Assist in the coordination of departmental events as needed.
• Support department, divisional and university programs as assigned. This includes opening week, new student orientation, homecoming and commencement activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Knowledge of and experience working with fraternity and sorority life within a college or university setting.. Significant undergraduate paraprofessional or leadership experience is acceptable.
• An understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
• Experience working to incorporate inclusive practices, social and racial justice practices into campus activities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail are essential.
• Ability to maintain flexibility in a fast-paced environment. Ability to juggle multiple priorities.
• Ability to build working relationships with students, faculty, administrators and staff.
• Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to accommodate planned programming initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Development, Counseling or related field.
• Prior advising experience with a Fraternity and Sorority Life community. Graduate work is acceptable.
• An understanding of risk management and harm reduction approaches and strategies.
• Prior budget management experience.
