Another Source’s client, Laird Superfood, is recruiting a Staff Accountant to join their team. Laird Superfood is headquartered in Sisters, Oregon (near Bend) however this position can be located anywhere in the United States; ideally on the west coast!

The Staff Accountant will play a key role in managing trade spend financial transactions of our rapidly growing business. They will be responsible for accounting and reporting for trade spend accruals and actuals and ensuring that customer payments are processed and paid timely. Working closely with the Sales and Finance teams, they will ensure proper set up and maintenance of data, payments, and reporting on a monthly basis for all groups to ensure proper accounting through all systems. The successful candidate is extremely detail oriented, able to manage a large number of accounts with various terms and conditions, has demonstrated ability to effectively manage Account Receivables disputes, and has extensive accrual accounting experience. Responsibilities include: 

  • Execute month-end journal entries and reconciliations and prepare month-end and other reports for trade spend. 
  • Audit promotional contracts evaluating and interpreting deductions and promotions to improve timeliness and accuracy relating to deduction resolution and management. 
  • Analyze and interpret customer performance to the agreed upon contractual obligations. 
  • Ensure accuracy of allowances based on contract terms and conditions for rebates and price deviations. 
  • Validate the integrity of the claim data used in the sales reporting. 
  • Identify trade discrepancies and work with the customer to gain understanding for resolution. 
  • Improve process efficiency, productivity, and quality. 
  • Monitor trends and recommend opportunities for increased profitability. 
  • Review Accounts Receivables and validate and accrue for dispute discounts, promos, and chargebacks. 
  • Handle the dispute management process with vendors/distribution centers. 
  • Set up and maintain info from supplier agreements in our software system. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, sales, and other cross-functional departments. 
  • Support software implementation. 
  • Coordinate with the Sales team on supplier agreements & contracts and with the Operations team on forecasting and inventory. 
  • Other duties as needed, including broader GL account ownership, month-end close opportunities, and quarterly SEC filing support.  

Requirements: 

  • 3 years’ accounting/finance experience in a high-performance business environment 
  • General knowledge of accounting and finance compliance, month end closing, general ledger, accruals, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis 
  • In depth knowledge of reviewing transactions, completing and reviewing journal entries and preparing and reviewing other transactions to ensure accurate financial records 
  • Previous experience with ERP systems and a history of being able to quickly adapt to new applications 
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills 
  • Detail oriented and able to manage and prioritize multiple/diverse tasks 
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and analytical skills required
