The ideal candidate has an electrical engineer degree with 8 or more years’ experience or equivalent experience with wireless systems and communication technologies, primarily cellular networks, TCP a d UDP communications, and network protocol debugging experience. The candidate will also need hardware experience at the system level, and an understanding of firmware and software development with respect to cellular and backend communications.
This position is a senior resource for the Hardware Electronics group, and will play a key role in supporting and maintaining our next generation of IoT/Cloud based/Cyber secure electronic products.
The candidate will be working for a rapidly growing business division within a large firm with revenues exceeding 20 billion dollars annually, and will be the company’s first hire in this area. The candidate will be required to take a hands on approach to this work and the tuning and analysis of the current systems, as well as building a system engineering team in the future.
The candidate will need to demonstrate advanced knowledge of the individual cellular protocols, cellular network signaling, data session management, and backend analysis skills with TCP and UPD communications. Ideally the candidate will have sufficient experience to run basic database queries on SQL, developing scripting tools as needed for data analysis, and the ability to programmatically analyze large data sets.
This individual will responsible for investigating and fixing/resolving end to end data communication issues, and determining the root cause of the failures, and work in conjunction with the hardware and software development teams to resolve these issues and confirm performance improvements.
Principal responsibilities:
- Working closely with the hardware engineering and the software development teams to identify and determine root cause of communication issues.
- Document and manage the issue resolution process, with multi-functional teams, from identification to implementation validation
- Build process and procedures to pass on and implement with more junior team members
- Document change and improvement through the company’s quality management program
- Analyze wireless data packets and other data streams to detect issues
- Cost reductions driven by automation/process improvements/alternate component approvals
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
- An electrical engineering degree with at least 8 years’ experience with wireless system engineering or equivalent experience
- Experience with data analysis such as scripting languages, Excel, and other data analysis tools
- Ability to pull data from SQL databases, with basic and more advanced AQL queries
- Experience Testing and Troubleshooting integrated systems including network communications and Internet based software.
- Knowledge of firmware design, development and implementation of both firmware and software
- Previous ISO 9001 work environment experience in the high volume manufacturing field
- Strong English written and verbal communications skills
- Experience with wireless system engineering and cellular protocols (GSM, GPRS, UMTS, and LTE), as well as GPS and other GNSS systems.
- Experience with network based computing systems, specifically USB, proxy servers, TCP/IP and other machine based communication protocols
- Teammate with a “can do” attitude, be self-motivated and work with little supervision.
- Experience working in a remote environment and experience demonstrating learning agility, collaboration and independent initiative.
