Full-Time Sr. Research Associate I
Job Description
The Lurie Institute for Disability Policy at the Heller School seeks a Senior Research Associate (SRA) to provide quantitative, analytic, and data management and statistical analytic support for research to improve the lives of people with disabilities. This person will work as part of a team comprised of faculty, researchers, and collaborating partners, and participate in the planning, design, review, and statistical analysis of research studies. This includes a variety of projects that require analysis of large data sets and implementation of research designs including experimental and nonexperimental studies, conduct interdisciplinary literature reviews, and contribute to publications targeting a broad range of audiences.
Successful applicants will have a PhD in Sociology, Social Policy, Public Health, Gerontology, Disability, or related fields and 2-5 years experience with analysis of large data sets (including Medicaid and other administrative claims data) and experience in research, evaluation, and analysis of Long-Term Supports and Services (LTSS) data; and an in depth understanding of LTSS, Home and Community Based Services (HCBS), and Medicaid policy.
Strong preference will be given to individuals from the disability community.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Management
- Create and maintain databases for storage and retrieval of research data.
- Write code for data cleaning protocols Create SAS/SPSS/Stata in support of research projects. Note: Stata is the main analytical software at Brandeis, but knowledge of other tools is a strength.
- Participate in the design of questionnaires and interview forms. Collect background data for studies from various database sources and summarize findings for presentations at research meetings.
Data Analysis
- Perform data analyses, including descriptive statistics, correlational analyses, frequency/distributional analysis to identify data anomalies/peculiarities, and other analyses to inform the development of indicators and measures.
- Perform statistical analysis (e.g., regression) for use in peer reviewed publications and reports. Collaborate with Lurie Institute research faculty and staff on the design and analysis of biostatistics aspects of research protocols.
General Research Support
- Act as project manager on major research studies and provide day-to-day direction to research staff and student workers on assigned projects
- Manage data-related aspects of presentations, papers and publications/policy briefs, i.e., produce tables, charts, graphs, and other data visualizations in Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Conduct web searches for data sets and policy information.
- Co-author scholarly, peer-reviewed publications, policy briefs, and presentations, including preparation of methods and results sections. Contribute to the development of research proposals.
- Serve as a mentor in the Lurie Institute Undergraduate Research Fellowship program.
Education & Experience:
Master’s degree plus 3-5 years experience required, PhD preferred
