Full-Time Sr. Data Scientist
Job Description
OpenSpace’s core product is loved by its users, and we see this in all of our key metrics like engagement, retention, and revenue. The success of our core product has given us a good problem to have: our customers and the industry as a whole are trying to pull us in many different directions at once.
Our data team’s mission is to be the source of truth. We help teams across the company measure and prioritize their opportunities, which means working closely with the product team and our leadership as well as engineering, operations, finance, marketing and sales. Our team today is still small compared to the number of new products and markets that lie ahead, so new opportunities for personal development are abundant.
Brief summary of role:
For us Data Science means empowering good decision making across the organization. This role is mainly centered around product analytics and analytics engineering. The pillars of our work are ensuring good data collection as part of ongoing product development, delivering easy to understand metrics and KPIs to our product and operations teams, surfacing insights about our products or processes through experiments or analysis that lead to shifts in strategy.
What you will be doing:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the product from both the customer’s perspective and the internal workings of our systems and algorithms, ensuring informed hypotheses about the effects of product changes.
- Proactively explore what makes valuable customer experiences and good business outcomes, and follow up by proactively sharing insights with your team.
- Leverage your knowledge of product usage metrics to estimate the impact of potential projects, and design new experiments to validate or invalidate assumptions to maximize the ROI
- Develop and maintain the metrics and dashboards that help us monitor product usage and understand how it relates to overall business health and honing in on tricky edge cases and ways to test so that they are represented correctly in our reporting.
- Partner with engineering to create and store various types of data to ensure the data team remains the organization’s source of truth and provides crucial insights to support decision-making across departments.
- Evaluate complex situations and data sets to identify key factors and trends, and demonstrate sound judgment when recommending strategies for improving performance and driving growth.
- Effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse stakeholder audiences to determine the appropriate methods for new assignments.
- Apply technical and functional expertise to develop and implement innovative data-driven solutions for complex business problems.
What we are looking for:
- 5-8 years of analytics experience or equivalent projects in a data science capacity.
- Experience defining and working with engineers to instrument metrics for new product features.
- Experience writing advanced SQL to build new data tables and pipelines – we use dbt.
How you like to work:
- Ability to quickly learn and understand the details of complex technical products and their use cases in relation to the construction industry
- Detail-oriented, with a focus on ensuring data accuracy and quality in reporting and analysis.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical and statistical concepts and information in a clear and concise manner verbally, visually and in writing.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts and priorities effectively to diverse stakeholders
