Temporary Specialist Poverty Reduction
Job Description
- Facilitate and lead collaboration with community, municipal partners, service providers and other stakeholders on a wide range of projects and initiatives
- Research best practices and gather information on trends, issues, gaps, and statistics to provide recommendations for continuous improvement and for inclusion in the strategic planning process
- Use key performance measures to interpret, evaluate information as well as collect and analyze data and provide recommendations for continuous improvement and for inclusion in the strategic planning process
- Develop strategic relationships with municipal peers, community leaders, Ministry officials and Regional staff to solidify long term plans and performance objectives
- Works with the community on community-based planning processes for issues such as poverty reduction, including food security, income security, and affordable housing
- Represent the Region on various committees to inform, influence and move forward Poverty Reduction priorities
- Prepare complex and specialized documentation including council reports, briefing documents,and other comprehensive reports
What the role requires:
- Post secondary education in Human Services, Planning, Public Administration, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years’ of experience in strategic research and planning working within diverse communities
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
- The ability to manage strategic initiatives, projects, and programs
- Working knowledge of poverty reduction theories and practices
- Ability to interpret and evaluate information, develop new approaches or processes
- Experience collecting and analyzing performance data to make recommendations to improve service performance
- Adept political awareness coupled with a working knowledge of relevant legislation governing Human Services programs, enabling effective response and decision-making while engaging with stakeholders
- Extensive experience using Project Management methodologies
- Intermediate computer skills in MS Office, MS Teams, and other virtual meeting tools
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative and strategic relationships with community, service providers, municipal partners, and other external stakeholders
- Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, including facilitation and presentation skills
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic plans
- Ability to identify and respond to situations using tact and diplomacy
- Skills in formulating advocacy priorities and positions through thorough research and analysis of policy documents across federal, provincial, municipal, and community levels and demonstrated experience in implementing advocacy campaigns
- Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills to gather and analyze data
- Strong critical and strategic thinking skills
- Ability to work in a self-directed manner within a collaborative team environment, managing multiple tasks and shifting/changing priorities
- Detailed-oriented with proven organizational skills
- Demonstrated track record of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Although this role is based out of 10 Peel Centre Drive in Brampton, you’ll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you’ll have the ability to work remotely and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs. It’s important to note that your remote work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we’re compliant with all regulations and policies.
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week – The Region of Peel offers job based flexible hours of work that allows employees to manage personal and professional responsibilities while at the same time ensures business operational needs and customer service expectations are achieved
