Temporary Specialist, Legislative
Job Description
- Preparing complex, specialized and technical documentation, i.e., minutes and Council reports
- Undertaking duties of the Regional Clerk in subcommittee meetings of Council
- Providing procedural advice and legislative support
- Reviewing and maintaining Legislative Services’ operational procedures
- Supervising a Legislative Assistant and provide general guidance to staff
- Interpreting legislation and provide guidance to client departments with respect to legislative processes
- Administering various legislative requirements such as: attending meetings, recording minutes, preparing agendas, correspondence and other related matters for Regional Council
- Facilitating training and presentations
- Researching and responding to queries
- Participating on various projects as required
- Delivering effective adult-based training on the e-scribe application
What the role requires:
- University degree in political science, public administration or related field, with progressive related municipal experience
- Enrollment or completion of the Certified Municipal Designation Program (CMO)
- Demonstrated leadership skills to provide advice and direction to staff
- Knowledge of Council, Committee and parliamentary procedures in addition to the municipal structure
- Knowledge of the Municipal Act
- Familiarity with Regional by-law preparation and decision-making procedures at the provincial level
- Combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills/Abilities:
- Proven ability to interpret legislation
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
- Ability to review, comprehend and summarize complex documents, demonstrated report writing skills
- Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, Power-Point and Outlook
- Excellent business, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of local boards, special purpose bodies
- Strong communication and customer service skills in order to interact with the Public, all levels of staff and Council members (written and verbal)
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
