Full-Time Special Events Officer

Role Overview

The Special Events Officer plays an important role in the achievement of elevating Diabetes Canada events and partnerships by developing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of new corporate supporters, volunteers and volunteer committees, and supporting fundraising special events. The Officer will also work closely with other members of the Community Fundraising and Events team and the National Corporate Partnerships team to build strong internal and external relationships and ensure high-quality, consistent stewardship of our event donors and corporate partners.

Location:

A flexible work agreement policy in place allowing employees to work on a hybrid schedule, working remotely, and with the expectation of attending in person events when needed. Candidate must reside in Ontario or Alberta, Canada.

This role includes, but not limited to:

  • Identify, develop and cultivate corporate relationships to help sustain and grow the special events portfolio, including solicitation for employee engagement initiatives, events and related campaigns.
  • Recruit volunteers and support special event organizing committees.
  • Works in partnership with the Manager of Signature and Special Events and National Corporate Partnerships team to identify and maximize corporate sponsorships and engagement.
  • Works in tandem with the Coordinator, Special Events to ensure all sponsorship deliverables are met.
  • Develops compelling proposals and presentations for corporate prospects that align with the Diabetes Canada business plan and market trends.
  • Manage a pipeline of qualified prospects and coordinate pipelines with other fundraising activities.
  • Works cross functionally with the Officer, Peer to Peer and Third Party Events to identify sponsors for Peer to Peer programs.
  • Conduct prospect research to identify new contacts, companies, and growth opportunities.
  • Facilitate a moves management approach to corporate constituents tracking data within the organization’s CRM system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • University or College degree in Fundraising, Marketing, Communications, or equivalent experience
  • 3 – 5 years of proven fundraising experience in a high relationship-based environment
  • Experience recruiting and supporting volunteer committees
  • Confident, friendly, professional, and comfortable with cold calling
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with a fundraising related CRM an asset
  • Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines with advanced organization skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Some flexibility to travel and to attend evening and weekend events
