A day in the life as a Software Engineer/Web Application Developer/Computer Programmer (II/III)

As a Software Engineer/Web Application Developer/Computer Programmer (II/III) at HumRRO, you contribute to the development of online applications used for testing, education, training, and psychological research. You are on the front line of taking us into the future. Along with your team, you design, develop, and maintain online assessments, surveys, and item banking web applications. You get to help develop custom web applications and databases, design computer-based and online training systems and integrate with learning management, applicant tracking or other systems.

As a Level III employee, you interact with internal and external clients to create software requirements, test case development, and user acceptance documentation, as well as create reports, briefings and other work product preparation products. At Level II or III, you must be self-motivated and will appreciate that you are not micromanaged. You will be expected to think critically and contribute to designing novel solutions to complex, abstract problems. Though you may have an analytical mind and often work independently, good interpersonal and communication skills will also be essential to your success–as you do spend a significant amount of time collaborating with others.

Qualifications for a Software Engineer/Web Application Developer/Computer Programmer (II/III)

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science or a related field is required. Equivalent demonstrated ability may be considered.
  • Applicants must have an additional 3 years (level II), or 5 years (level III) of related professional experience.
  • Advanced skills in full stack development using ASP.NET, ASP.NET Core, C#, MVC 3+, Entity Framework, modern JavaScript frameworks like Angular JS and jQuery, and MS SQL. Equivalent skills in other frameworks (e.g J2EE) may be considered.
  • Experience with cloud services, infrastructure virtualization and deployment/orchestration in AWS.
  • Strong skills with HTML 5, CSS and responsive design, jQuery, Kendo UI and using the Agile method in Visual Studio Team Services/Azure DevOps
  • Competency in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position based on government contract requirements.
  • Experience with: frontend Single Page Application frameworks (such as angular, react, node.js), other high-level programming languages (e.g. Java), web accessibility (Section 508), AWS, DevOps, CI/CD, SCORM, animation, multimedia, interactive GUI or mobile devices is highly desirable. Knowledge of the scientific method is useful but not essential.
