Temporary Social Media Manager

Rise Home Stories – Posted by virtualhumanity Anywhere

Job Description

About Rise Home Stories

We are a collaborative team of multimedia storytellers, producers, and housing and land justice advocates, reimagining the past, present, and future of our communities by transforming the stories we tell about them. Together we are creating a suite of multimedia narrative projects (an animated web series, a children’s picture book, a podcast, an interactive storytelling site, and a video game) that explore the multigenerational impacts of racist land and housing practices and that lift up a long-term vision for how we live and work together.

The children’s picture book Alejandria Fights Back/La Lucha de Alejandria will be published on August 10th, and the short film MINE just screened at the Tribeca Film Festival. We’re excited to use social media to amplify our projects and cultivate an engaged community as we prepare to release the rest of the projects this fall!

Role description

We’re looking for a creative, passionate, and highly organized Social Media Associate/Manager to drive our overall social media strategy and create visually engaging content across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Our ideal candidate is someone who is willing and able to both strategize and execute the minor details of a successful social media campaign. We need someone with honed, proven tools for building a following from the ground up and engaging them long-term, and someone who’s willing to roll up their sleeves and actually create that content. Maybe you’ve designed beautiful, compelling IG posts but never had the opportunity to be the true driver of an IG account. This is the perfect chance to take what you’ve learned as a creator and build a strategy for our suite of media projects. We will prioritize candidates whose lived experience aligns with the narratives we are developing and who have relationships to the communities whose stories are featured.

Responsibilities

The Social Media Manager will:

  • Devise an initial approach to Rise Home’s social media channels, making informed decisions about:
    • Overall brand/tone/style guidelines
    • Frequency and timing of posts
    • Engagement with current followers, like-minded orgs/brands, and potential followers
    • Paid ads, influencer relationships, and other opportunities to amplify our content
  • Observe data and audience metrics as content goes out and fine-tune social media strategy and content accordingly
  • Act as a project manager for all social media efforts, including:
    • Scheduling posts in a strategic manner
    • Engaging the greater Rise Home team (5 teams that include between 5 and 15 people each) to capitalize on their existing networks and followings
  • Creating and managing a workflow process (content sharing systems, centralized tracker, communication and approval workflow)
  • Working with Rise Home producers to manage the community in their accounts (responding to DMs, etc)
  • Collaborate regularly with Rise Home producers on overall impact, outreach, and communications strategies, ensuring that our social media campaigns integrate seamlessly with other efforts and are thoughtful and strategic

Depending on the candidate’s profile and interest, the role and hours could be expanded to other responsibilities including the following. If you also have these skill sets, please make sure to let us know.

  • PR/press relations
    • Pitching stories about Rise Home and its individual media projects as premieres and other related events take place
    • Coordinating with the greater Rise Home team to do additional media outreach
    • Crafting compelling press releases
  • Other communications
    • Finishing Rise Home’s website and ensuring that it stays updated in a timely manner
    • Crafting a quarterly Rise Home newsletter with news and updates on all five projects
    • Creating more frequent e-mail blasts for RH events and key project developments
    • Managing contact lists

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate is:

  • Experienced at carrying out successful social media campaigns and building social channel followings from scratch
  • An excellent communicator, both verbal and written, and can craft on-brand social media posts that resonate
  • Familiar with housing justice and has a clear sense of language/terminology/guidelines around the issue
  • Keyed in to what works on social media visually and is able to carry that out to build an audience (*note you do NOT need to be a seasoned graphic designer, but you should have working familiarity with Canva and/or Adobe Photoshop)
  • Adept at using FB, IG, Twitter, Canva, Mailchimp, Google Analytics
  • Highly organized and responsive — availability is super important!
  • Comfortable with basic video and audio editing

We prefer someone who also:

  • Is experienced at other communications, like newsletters and e-mail blasts
  • Knows how to maintain a website and has familiarity with a CMS (content management system) such as WordPress, Squarespace, etc.
  • Has some experience in PR, ideally writing press releases and pitching to media outlets

Time commitment and compensation

Part-time independent contractor role at 15-25 hours per week, starting immediately and continuing through Spring 2022. Pays $30-35/hour commensurate with ultimate role and experience. *You must be able to work within the EST time zone “business hours.”
