JOB SUMMARY
A member of the Marketing Department, the Social Media Manager is responsible for strategically creating compelling social media content to inspire Nat Hab’s target audiences, enhance engagement, and increase followers across multiple channels. This position will manage social media performance reporting and analyses, online community interactions, paid post amplification, and visual assets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Social Media Content Creation, Distribution & Strategy
- Create compelling social media content using photos, videos, graphics, user-generated content, guide and staff submissions, blog posts and more.
- Optimize all content for peak performance by crafting different versions tailored for various channels, devices (especially mobile) and formats like newsfeeds, stories, reels, shorts, live videos, and groups.
- Build and maintain editorial calendars to guide the planning and daily distribution of captivating content on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to increase audience engagement and follower/subscriber numbers.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Department to generate new ideas for social media content based on trip booking seasons, priority destinations, company and travel industry announcements, current events and conservation news, traveler stories, naturalist guides’ field experiences, and synchronizing with Nat Hab’s other integrated marketing initiatives (blog posts, emails, mailers, videos, website, etc.).
- Research and evaluate new social media channels and evolving delivery formats on an ongoing basis.
Performance Reporting & Analysis
- Use Facebook, Instagram and YouTube Analytics to consistently assess post- and campaign-level performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Produce regular reports summarizing key performance indicators and share actionable recommendations with Marketing colleagues to guide continuous optimization of social media strategies and tactics.
Community Management
- Regularly monitor and moderate all user-generated messages, comments, hashtags and tags.
- Selectively participate in conversations to add value for users and enhance brand recognition and credibility.
- Identify and encourage brand advocates to cultivate community, foster dialogue and promote positivity.
Paid Post Amplification
- Utilize Ads Manager to expand the reach of and engagement with select posts on Facebook and Instagram.
- Coordinate with the Content Team, Director of Marketing Production, and contract advertising partner to identify optimal target audiences for paid posts, analyze results, and provide tactical recommendations to constantly increase the effectiveness of this paid advertising spend.
Visual Media Asset Management & Curation
- Oversee Nat Hab’s growing media library by continually organizing visual media assets, including ongoing inventory maintenance, tagging and archiving of photos, graphics, videos, B-roll, and metadata.
- Communicate with travelers, staff and Nat Hab’s worldwide team of Expedition Leaders to facilitate the regular transfer of photos and videos from their field experiences to Nat Hab’s visual media library.
- Collaborate with the Photos Team and Video Team to identify and implement enhancements to Nat Hab’s visual media asset management systems.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
- 3+ years’ professional experience creating consumer-facing content for various social media channels, including demonstrated expertise with developing and executing social media strategies.
- 3+ years’ professional experience with social media reporting and analyses, including the analytical ability to assess key metrics, interpret insights and make recommendations to guide decision-making.
- Interest in curating and managing visual media assets, including organizing, indexing, tagging, and archiving a catalog of photos, videos, graphics and/or B-roll.
- Proven familiarity with online customer service and nurturing digital communities on behalf of a brand.
- Demonstrated understanding of Ads Manager to create, organize and publish Facebook and Instagram ads.
- Proficiency using mobile editing apps to produce and enhance videos and photos for social media viewing.
- A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, advertising, journalism, English, media studies, public relations, business or a related field is preferred but not required.
Additional Skills & Abilities
- Competency using graphic design software (such as Canva) and other creative design tools (like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom and/or Premiere) is strongly preferred.
- Excellent written communication skills, self-editing abilities and creative writing talents.
- Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to consistency, workflow efficiency and quality-control.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with high levels of integrity, maturity and enthusiasm.
- Exceptional organizational skills to effectively balance competing priorities to meet key goals and deadlines.
- Passion for self-education, problem solving, and quickly learning new software and other skills on the job
- Dedication to adapting content strategies and tactics to leverage the latest social media and visual tools.
- Possess a demonstrated passion for travel/tourism, nature/wildlife or related fields. International travel experience is preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee will also be required to type, move a computer cursor and write. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Compensation commensurate with experience: Base salary range of $55,000-$65,000 USD, plus annual bonus.
This position comes with generous Paid Time Off and paid holidays. Benefits include site inspection on Natural Habitat Adventures trips and discounts on outdoor gear and clothing. Eligibility for medical insurance, participation in 401(k) with company match and parental leave after a predetermined period of time.
LOCATION
Nat Hab currently has a hybrid work model, with some days working in-person at the office (optional) and some days working from home for those employees who live near the Nat Hab headquarters in Boulder County, Colorado. This is subject to change as the COVID-19 situation evolves. Residing in the Denver Metro Area is preferred but not required.
