Job Description

Social Inclusion Research Opportunity
The Environmental Law Institute is seeking Visiting Researchers (graduate degree holders or
professionals), Law Clerks (current law students), and Research Interns (current or recent
undergraduates) to support an evaluation assessing social inclusion in environmental
programming. The evaluation explores the extent to which environmental projects address gender, Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IPLCs), youth, and other historically marginalized groups; the modalities for inclusion; and the impacts of inclusion on project success. This evaluation builds on a previous evaluation completed by the Environmental Law Institute on environmental programming in fragile and conflict-affected situations; as such, it interrogates inclusion of marginalized groups in fragile and conflict-affected situations vis-à-vis non-fragile situations.

Responsibilities may include:
● Perform qualitative and/or quantitative research, analysis, writing, and editing
related to gender, youth, Indigenous Peoples, and inclusion of other
marginalized groups in environmental programming
● Participate in weekly coordination meetings (via video conferencing)

Specific environmental experience is not mandatory. The work will be conducted remotely.

Candidates should:
● Possess superior research, writing, and interpersonal communication skills
● Have a strong desire to gain knowledge of the environmental field, as well as
interest in natural resource management and/or peacebuilding
● Be focused, independent, reliable, and meticulous
● Be available to work at least 15 hours per week for at least 3 months

While the following skills are not required, we are interested in candidates who have:
● Experience with statistical analysis
● Language skills (particularly Spanish)

If any of these skills or interests apply to you, please emphasize them in your application materials
(see below).

Please note:
● Compensation is not available.
● Applications will be processed on a rolling basis.
● Candidates are asked to commit to work for a minimum of 3 months.

To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume and 3–5-page analytical writing sample
to br***@el*.org. The writing sample may be an excerpt from a longer work.
