Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) seeks an attorney with 4-7 years’ experience for a short-term three-month temporary position starting between February 2022 through June 30, 2022. The attorney will work in the CORI & Re-entry Project in partnership with Community Work Services (CWS) to assist individuals before and after release from incarceration in sealing and expunging their criminal records, and advising them on their legal rights related to CORI in the context of job applications, job interviews, and occupational licensing. The attorney will provide group and community trainings to CWS and others on CORI related rights. The attorney will have significant client contact and will work closely with community partners at their site or jails in person or by zoom and other means. The attorney will represent clients in court in criminal record sealing and expungement matters.
Qualifications: Massachusetts bar admission and past legal experience assisting clients with criminal record sealing matter is required. Past experience with low- income formerly incarcerated individuals, communities of color, and community re-entry and work training programs, as well as experience delivering community legal education presentations on CORI is preferred.
This position is for an attorney with 4 to 7 years of experience. Fluency in one or more languages in addition to English spoken by GBLS clients, such as is helpful but not required.
Salary is based on a union scale which begins at $60,000 for an attorney who has just graduated from law school. GBLS offers a generous benefits package and a student loan repayment assistance plan for eligible attorneys.
