As our ‘Senior Technical Officer, Forests and Land Use’ you will work on evolving CDP’s corporate forests questionnaire, reporting guidance and scoring methodology, using best-practice standards and scientific benchmarks to measure companies’ progress against what needs to happen to ensure a transition towards a restorative economy.
The role requires the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, to analyze complex data, and to think critically and innovatively. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance knowledge across a range of topics related to deforestation, land use, and corporate reporting.
About the Questionnaire and Scoring Evolution (QSE) – ESG Disclosure Content Team
The QSE team is responsible for the development of CDP’s questionnaires, reporting guidance and scoring methodology materials which provide environmental information to investors, customers and other data-users, and drive companies’ actions to catalyse the transition to a sustainable economy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Technical Manager and other team members in day-to-day tasks related to the development of the questionnaire, scoring methodologies and reporting guidance for companies;
- Analysing and mapping CDP’s questionnaire content to other key external frameworks, such as the Accountability Framework (AFi).
- Conducting desk-based research into corporate actions and risks and prioritizing data points essential for assessing companies’ action on deforestation and land use.
- Collaborating with the CDP’s Disclosure Content teams, Environmental Practices teams and Cities, States & Regions teams to explore and identify key areas and priorities that will be incorporated into future CDP Forests disclosure, in line with CDP’s 2025 strategy.
- Providing subject matter expertise and analytical support across CDP’s broader activities related to forests & land-use and other environmental themes, including:
- contributing to projects (e.g., funded projects, publications, engagement events etc.).
- supporting other teams within CDP to deliver CDP’s annual reporting cycle.
- Supporting the planning, implementation and optimising of the team’s processes and procedures related to the input of content into CDP’s online systems – across CDP’s three corporate themes of Climate change, Forests and Water security and Cities States and Regions.
- Analysing response data and conducting research to inform the questionnaire revisions and developments;
- Drafting and proofreading content for technical documents;
- Preparing presentations and presenting information to colleagues and companies;
Required skills and experience
- A relevant academic qualification and at least 2 years of professional experience in a forests and land-use or corporate sustainability-related role;
- A demonstrable understanding of deforestation issues and of forests-related risks and opportunities for companies;
- The ability to organize and interpret qualitative and quantitative data, and present results in a clear and concise way;
- Strong communication and problem solving skills;
- Excellent standard of written English;
- Strong time management and organizational skills with an ability to work effectively and accurately under pressure, whilst still paying attention to detail.
Desirable skills (one or more of the following would be an advantage):
- Familiarity with CDP’s corporate disclosure framework.
- Familiarity with project management concepts;
- Advanced level Excel data analysis skills;
- Demonstrable expertise in one or more of the following: the drivers of deforestation, commodity supply chains (including beef, soy, timber, pulp & paper, and palm oil), key geographies (Indonesia, Latin America), sustainability
- Familiarity with corporate disclosure standards and initiatives (e.g., The Accountability Framework, CGF Forest Positive Coalition, GRI, TNFD).
Role details
This is a full-time fixed term role for 22 months, with a possibility of renewal. The role will be based at CDP’s London office with options for remote/hybrid working and will report to the Technical Manager, Forests.
What we offer
Salary and benefits: £30,600-£33,000 with annual discretionary bonus (depending on organization performance), 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance, flexible working opportunities, and other benefits. There is a 3-month probationary period for this role.
