Full-Time Senior Services Manager
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for directing the operation of the Oshkosh Seniors Center. This includes overseeing staffing, facilities, services and programs. The Senior Center Manager also serves as staff liaison for the Oshkosh Committee on Aging, the Oshkosh Seniors Center Advisory Board of Directors and the Friends of the Oshkosh Seniors Center, Inc. The Senior Center Manager advocates for older adults through education of and involvement of individuals, groups and organizations in the community. The Senior Center Manager is also responsible for developing vision for the Oshkosh Seniors Center while serving a wide age range of individuals age 50+.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Manage Senior Center Staff (35%): Supervise and direct Senior Center staff in areas such as hiring, disciplining, evaluating performance, assigning work, training and following safety practices.
- Manage Administrative and Financial Needs (20%): Provide financial management, including operations and capital improvement budgeting, equipment ordering, grant writing and fundraising. Develop and maintain financial and user statistic reporting systems.
- Maintain Center Equipment and Operations (10%): Direct the maintenance and safe keeping of public records and equipment for the Senior Services Division. Ensure that the Senior Center is neat, clean, safe and attractive for users. Develop practical, logical and feasible solutions for improving division operations, including policy and strategic plan development. Perform special projects, such as agency accreditation, master plans, surveys and collaborative services with other agencies benefiting Oshkosh seniors.
- Assist with Technical and Marketing Needs (10%): Provide technical assistance to fundraising campaigns for the Senior Center. Market the Senior Center and its offerings by stimulating public awareness of programs and community services as well as the needs of the elderly through public speaking, public access television and radio programs, newsletters and brochures. Assist the Marketing and Fund Development Coordinator with marketing strategies for programs and services. Assist with developing the monthly newsletter and other promotional materials. Promote the Senior Center through public presentations and networking with other like organizations.
- Develop Services and Programs (10%): Work closely with city, county and state agencies in developing needed services for the elderly. Receive and respond to questions and concerns from the public, government agencies, elected officials and City staff pertaining to operation of and services provided through the center.
- Liaison for Committees and Boards (10%): Serve as liaison between the Oshkosh Committee on Aging, the Oshkosh Seniors Center Advisory Board of Directors, Friends of the Oshkosh Seniors Center, Inc. and other groups who promote quality services for older adults.
- Recruit Volunteers and Advocate for Senior Citizens (5%): Encourage volunteerism by people of all ages as a means of providing quality programs and services that cannot be provided by paid staff alone. Promote advocacy by teaching seniors how to advocate for themselves and provide advocacy to those unable to advocate for themselves.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Gerontology, Human Services, Education or a related area of study.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in recreation programming or human services, including three (3) years of supervisory / management experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
