Full-Time Senior Scientist, Biophysics and Assay Development

Arrakis Therapeutics – Posted by Arrakis Therapeutics Waltham, Massachusetts, United States

Job Description

Do you have the passion to join a group whose mission is to pioneer the discovery of a new class of medicines to treat diseases unaddressed by today’s medicines?  Does it excite you to be a part of a company with a focus on cancer and genetically validated targets in other disease areas with unmet medical need?  If yes, you may be a great fit to join Arrakis on our path to bring powerful new therapies to millions of patients.

Your Impact at Arrakis

The mission of Arrakis Therapeutics is to extend small molecule drug discovery into new realms of biology by discovering and developing compounds that selectively target RNA. By targeting specific RNA structure/function relationships, Arrakis will generate drug candidates with novel mechanisms of action for high-value molecular targets that are challenging to address via traditional approaches in therapeutic indications with high unmet medical need.

Biophysical and biochemical assay development and compound profiling are critical to our mission. This Scientist will make a major impact in the development, validation and execution of SPR and new biophysical assays for medium-high throughput screening.  The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced start-up environment, leveraging a high degree of problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to make a large impact on our mission.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Use multiple biophysical methods, such as SPR, ITC, MST, FP and DSF, to find small molecule leads, characterize screening hits and project compounds, and determine their molecular mechanism of action.
  • Develop experimental methods for measuring small molecule-RNA interactions and understanding RNA conformational dynamics.
  • Analyze, interpret and present results to project teams.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional biology, informatics, assay development, and chemistry team to deliver high-quality results, while taking on the role as the biophysics representative on project teams.
  • Stay on the cutting edge and help explore and evaluate new biophysical technologies.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Enzymology or a related field and 5+ years of relevant industry experience preferred. BS or MS with extensive relevant industry experience will also be considered.
  • Skilled at SPR, along with knowledge of multiple biophysical methods, such as ITC, MST, FP and DSF.
  • Significant experience profiling small molecule binding using multiple biophysics assays.
  • Proactive and efficient to enable high-quality results while fostering a positive work environment.
  • Exhibits passion and excitement over work. Has a can-do attitude without losing objectivity.
  • Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions and copes effectively with complexity and change.
