Grade:  Clerk Grade 9/10 (Salary $113,343 – $124,901+ superannuation)
Duration:  Ongoing
Location:  Gosford / Parramatta

About the team – Business Capability
The Centre for Work Health and Safety aims to create an evidence-based approach for the prevention of WHS harm and better regulation. Guided by the Research Blueprint, the Centre drives collaboration among academia, business, workers and government to create knowledge for practice and a smarter approach to WHS.

As part of the Science Outreach team the Senior Science Outreach Officer will play a key role in raising awareness and interest in WHS research, with the ultimate goal of changing safety behaviours and informing practice.  This is an opportunity to utilise outreach strategies to translate research findings into practical insights.

Key responsibilities

  • The translation of work health and safety research into policies, practices, harm prevention advice and injury and illness interventions.
  • Use customer insights to align project objectives to the needs and preferences of the target audience, and evaluate and track outcomes to assess achievement
  • Work collaboratively as part of the broader team to produce holistic and contemporary science outreach approaches for all campaigns
  • Maintaining momentum on long-term strategic projects while continuing to respond to daily priorities, and being responsive and resilient in a changing environment with competing demands.
  • Making sound recommendations and exercising good judgement in the absence of complete information.
  • Build the brand and promote the research of the Centre for WHS through social media campaigns, media and industry events, publications and more.

To be successful you will:

  • Have relevant qualifications and a passion for science outreach and engagement (highly desirable – Master of Science Communication)
  • Be knowledgeable in best practice outreach strategies and have a keen eye for translating technical and complex information concisely to effectively engage the NSW Community
  • Strong written communication skills, including report writing
  • Strong verbal communication, presentation and stakeholder consultation skills
  • Have experience working across a variety of social media platforms
  • Be motivated by the opportunity to make a difference to NSW community
