Full-Time Senior Representative, Corporate Tax
Job Description
The Senior Representative role sits within Corporate Tax’s Tax Compliance Quality Assurance (TCQA) team. This team oversees a variety of projects that involve Tax Information Reporting and Withholding (IRW) compliance including but not limited to federal and state deposits, information reporting and preparation of federal and state returns.
She/he will perform tasks such as (but not limited to):
- Demonstrate an understanding of the end-to-end processes for onboarding, withholding, depositing, and reporting of non-payroll taxes
- Prepare annual year-end Tax Forms 945 and 1042 workpapers and create an audit trail for manager review
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual state returns
- Assist with performing compliance testing / health checks across various lines of business to ensure compliance with documentation, withholding and reporting requirements. Consolidate compliance testing results with manager to present to line of business and remediate deficiencies
- Facilitate the deposit of non-payroll federal and state taxes on a timely basis
- Communicate issues as they arise and follow through to resolution
- Liaising between Corporate Tax, vendors, and the user communities.
The Senior Analyst must have an understanding of the Information Reporting and Withholding (IRW) regulations (specifically the tax validation requirements and year-end reporting requirements). S/he should be comfortable analyzing processes, large data, and working with various stakeholders. This individual should be a self-starter and someone that is comfortable working autonomously but knows when to seek help and escalate when needed. This is someone that is a team player and has a “can do” attitude.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a business
- 1 to 2 years of broad business experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Information Reporting and Withholding (IRW) regulations (e.g., Cost Basis, FATCA (ch 4), NRA (ch 3), Backup Withholding (ch 61), 871(m) and 1446 (f)).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience at a large Certified Public Accountant (CPA) firm or large corporate tax department.
- Experience using Convey/Taxport, or other information reporting systems.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $40,500 and $72,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
