Full-Time Senior Rail Design Engineer – NEW HIGHER PAY!
Job Description
- Direct the advanced engineering and management of major railroad design and construction projects.
- Oversee multiple private engineering firms and manage other NCDOT unit efforts supporting assigned projects.
- Manage complex multi-million dollar projects from concept and environmental coordination to preparation of preliminary, right-of-way, final plans, and through construction.
- Develop and negotiate agreements to deliver projects with stakeholders including municipalities, private railroad partners, and Federal agencies, including the Federal Railroad Administration.
- Review transit and regional/commuter rail projects and other projects that impact railroad corridors.
- Coordinate with railroad companies, municipalities, local and state officials, transit authorities, other NCDOT Units, State and Federal agencies, the Federal Railroad Administration, private engineering firms, contractors, and the public to meet project schedules and develop correct project design.
- Considerable knowledge of professional engineering theory, techniques, practices, and procedures related to railroad design, construction, and operations.
- In depth knowledge of engineering practices and standards.
- Demonstrated ability to apply advanced engineering skills to work with teams of advanced level engineers and technicians.
- Experience coordinating assignments and providing guidance and direction to consultant engineers.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working with municipal officials, politicians, citizens, railroad officials, Federal Railroad Administration, and/or transit administration officials.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and
- 4+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- We may require you to register as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
