Heart & Hand Center Senior Program Leader

Heart & Hand is looking for a creative, committed, and compassionate Senior Program Leader who is dedicated to ensuring that all children have the opportunity to succeed. 

The Heart & Hand Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Northeast Denver dedicated to empowering all young people to realize their potential.  H&H currently runs after school programming for 2nd-8th grade youth Monday-Friday from school dismissal-7:00pm (depending on site), full day 6 week summer programming, and a career and college program for young adults in 9th grade and beyond. Additionally, we extend support to enrolled families by providing resources, referrals, and emergency assistance to guardians. 

 

Job Description

Administrative

  • Be instrumental in the development and planning of programs through lesson planning and workshop development
  • Facilitate end of day debriefings, help maintain documentation of debriefing
  • Communicate areas of concern to the Program Manager/Director in a timely manner
  • Provide accurate food count totals, with temperature logs and ensure Food Bank of the Rockies protocols and procedures related to food service are being followed
  • Assist with data entry and use of data systems for grant reporting purposes
    • DESSA, PIRL, SELPQA assessment completion & data entering
    • Utilize City Span and/or EZ Reports for attendance tracking & editing student information aligned with direction from Program Manager 

Family, Stakeholder, & Internal Relationship Building

  • Build strong relationships with Heart & Hand students including maintaining regular communication with a group of families regarding student strengths, challenges, needs and schedules
  • Create a community of strong family engagement according to the program’s needs (ex: during recruitment, engaging with families during pick up, etc.)
  • Plan and implement special event programming, including but not limited to, volunteer groups and corporate engagement with the Development Team
  • Coordinate & support volunteers on-site in collaboration with Program Manager, Program Director & Development Team 
  • Rotate to different sites to better collaborate with each program, schedule to be determined by Senior Program Leaders and Program Managers

Programming and Safety

  • Actively supervise all youth participants
  • Plan in-depth and collaborative lessons and workshops for each week of programming independently and alongside other site members (interns, volunteers, staff)
  • Facilitate small academic and enrichment learning groups
  • Assist daily with set-up and clean-up of facility, to ensure cleanliness, and that all safety protocols and procedures are being met
  • Act as Site Lead in absence of Program Manager. Including, but not limited to responding appropriately to student injuries, fires, tornados, lockdowns, etc.
    • Facilitate at least 1 of each type of emergency drill (fire, tornado, lockdown, etc.) by the second quarter of your employment
  • Serve as lead supervisor during free-time (outdoor enrichment or indoor choice activities). Ensure structured activities throughout free time (i.e. check-in, check-out, choice time).

Professional Development & Coaching

  • Participate and communicate in daily staff meetings and attend professional development opportunities
  • Supervise all aides, youth mentors, or volunteers working with you
  • Communicate challenges and issues with Program Manager 
  • Serve as a point of reference for new team members to support and guide them 

COVID-19 Notes

  • Flexibility required during global pandemic. Our regular program model is in person programming, however local and state guidelines may require us to shift to virtual programming due to health and safety concerns.
  • Personal Protective Equipment will be provided by Heart & Hand. We require that staff wash hands, sanitize work spaces, only offer COVID safe programming, and stay up to date on Heart & Hand’s safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a genuine desire to empower all youth  
  • At least 6 months of experience working with school aged children in a setting similar to an afterschool program, preference for experience in a licensed child care or neighborhood youth organization program
  • Must have the ability to develop and cultivate relationships with volunteers, staff, youth, families and community members that we serve
  • Must be a flexible, solutions oriented, dependable, team player
  • Must have strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to exercise discretion
  • Ability to act as a strong role model for young people and maintain boundaries
  • Employment is contingent on a criminal background check
  • Valid Driver’s license preferred
  • Spanish speaking preferred
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification preferred

Work Schedule

This is a part-time, 30 hours per week, position Monday-Friday. Typical after-school programming runs from 2:00pm-7:00pm (shift times vary depending upon assigned site) Monday-Friday. There will be meetings and planning times that could be scheduled outside of these hours and flexibility with hours will be asked of staff as we continue to have to shift programming to adjust for school and COVID safety needs. This is a school year position with the potential summer hours. The ideal start date is August 26, 2022. Onboarding is August 26th – September 9th, and programs will begin on September 12th.

Compensation

  • Starting salary: $20/hr
  • Eligible for health benefits after 30 days
  • PTO
