The role will require close collaboration with our commissioning trade lead, as well as with senior representatives in Sales and Marketing.

We’re looking for a confident, knowledgeable and flexible candidate who is ready to step into an exciting and demanding role.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • representing trade titles at key cross-company meetings with senior staff members;
  • modelling bespoke schedules at short notice to accommodate business requirements;
  • providing an exceptional level of care to both high-profile and first-time authors;
  • allocating trade titles to freelance project managers and in-house production editors, and providing training where required;
  • project-managing a certain number of trade titles in-house from handover to print, as well as outsourcing a significant portfolio of monographs;
  • liaising with freelancers (copy-editors, typesetters, indexers and proofreaders) to ensure work is completed on time and to budget;
  • copy-editing and proofreading additional content when necessary;
  • overseeing quality control and adherence to text design and house style;
  • taking responsibility for remaining within budget while hitting publishing targets;
  • taking the lead on the production of our new trade audiobook list.

You should apply if you have:

  • Experience working on a trade list.
  • Proven ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with high-profile, international author- academics, as well as freelancers and suppliers.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, work on a large number of projects and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Excellent copy-editing and proofreading skills, using industry standard guidelines with substantial onscreen editing experience.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, delivering an exceptionally high standard of accuracy.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software and XML.

We are currently operating a blended working policy. For this role, our expectation is that a minimum of one day a week will be in the office (based in central Bristol on campus). This is a full-time role (35 hours per week).
