BPC is currently seeking a Senior Manager of Media Relations to support activities for BPC’s Health Program. The specific portfolio includes a wide array of issues including prevention and COVID-19, obesity and federal nutrition programs, the opioid epidemic, behavioral health, rural health, and digital health. The successful applicant would work hand in hand with BPC’s Health Program staff to produce reports and policy recommendations, hold events and use traditional and digital media to advance our policy objectives. Candidates should have 5 to 10 years’ experience in media relations and communications, and some form of health or public policy, campaign and/or Hill communications experience is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Along with the director of media relations and senior leadership, engage in strategic planning to increase public awareness of BPC and engage in key political stories
Manage BPC’s media presence, generating positive media coverage for the organization, its policy projects, senior staff and fellows
Serve as the main communications liaison for BPC’s Health Program
Develop and review media-related materials, including press releases, statements, op-eds, letters to the editor, media advisories, event invitations, and blog posts; secure placement of op-eds and letters to the editor
Cultivate relationships, proactively pitch, and work closely with reporters, journalists, producers, and editors to raise the profile of BPC’s issue area experts
Work with BPC’s digital media team to integrate digital strategies into media relations efforts
Work with BPC’s events team to create compelling content that attracts participation from and coverage by top-tier media outlets
Respond to media inquiries from top-tier national media outlets
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5-10 years of direct experience in media relations and communications. Some form of health or public policy, campaign and/or Hill communications experience is required. Marketing experience a plus
- Strong writing and verbal skills required
- An ability to work under tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects
- A demonstrated innovative and proactive approach to growing media coverage. Experience working with top-tier national media operations and news organizations, relationships with health reporters a plus
- Experience pitching broadcast, radio, print, and digital outlets.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team and independently. Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
- Strong project management skills and attention to detail
- Experience supporting and managing high level principals
