Full-Time Senior Manager of Government Relations

The Senior Manager of Government Relations will be based in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or DC (or possibly another location depending on the candidate) and will support the organization in developing and implementing state and federal government relations strategies leveraging nationwide staff, members, and volunteer networks. They will represent the organization at various state and federal government meetings and forums and support the work of an external firm and leadership. This position will also maintain current knowledge of state and federal government regulations and legislative issues. Phoenix programming is available in 45 states and 184 counties but initial government relations work will focus on Colorado, California, Texas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, and Illinois.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the work of external government affairs consultants focused on securing support through federal and select state sources
  • Build a nimble internal government relations vertical within a rapidly growing development department that is focused on securing the highest value opportunities while also building an operation that can scale over time to support work in all 50 states
  • Support the Sr. Vice President of Development in the creation of a multi-year plan for increasing federal and state support for Phoenix programming and research
  • Research, write, and secure government grants that align with organization’s strategic priorities and growth initiatives
  • Secure meetings and develop relationships with key government officials in priority locations
  • Maintain all financial reporting and forecasting for government grants
  • Work across Phoenix chapters and departments to engage members and staff in building relationships with elected officials
  • Maintain current knowledge of state and federal government regulations and legislative issues
  • Assist in the preparation of letters, testimony, speeches, and other advocacy materials
  • Travel 20-40% depending on location

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-10 years of relevant experience with a successful track record of securing funds from government sources
  • Deep understanding of the legislative process
  • Experience building department processes and protocols
  • Proven track record developing successful grant proposals
  • Experience managing outside vendors or consultants
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people from all walks of life

  • Track record of successful project management across complex organizations
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Lived experience as a peer in recovery
  • Desire to apply anti-racism and anti-oppression principles and practices

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • $73,000-$83,000 annually
  • 403(b) retirement plan with 4% match
