Overview of the role

  • Full-time and permanent role
  • Home-based contract, with occasional working out of client’s London offices.
  • Salary up to ca £55,000

We’re looking for a Senior Investigations Officer to join our client’s Professional Conduct Department. The role will be a part of an investigation team of 6 (there are 3 investigation teams of similar size in total).

 

The primary responsibility of the role is to investigate complaints of professional misconduct against members, firms, and students so that appropriate disciplinary action can be taken to maintain the standards and reputation of the organisation and the accountancy profession. You would manage a varied active caseload of circa 15.

 

 

Person Specification:

 

  • Educated to degree level and professionally qualified as an Accountant, with at least five years post qualification experience (including audit) and a minimum of three years’ experience directly relevant to the role.
  • Knowledge of accountancy, financial audit and tax or the legal framework in a professional regulatory environment and an understanding of regulatory and operational risk.
  • Accountancy, in particular public practice (including audit and tax) and experience of conducting case analysis and drafting in a contentious or regulatory environment.
  • Track record of coordinating and leading investigations and delivering solutions, and taking accountability for the successful resolution of complex issues.
  • Proven experience of handling and driving forward complex cases.
  • Interest in regulatory work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, customers and external stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial and regulatory awareness.
  • Excellent time management skills to deliver to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to critically analyse complicated and often voluminous documentation, and identify the salient points.
  • Strong written skills to produce concise, clear and accurate documents, such as closure notes, reports of disciplinary allegations and witness statements for presentation to the Disciplinary Committee.
  • Proactive approach to managing cases, including the ability to determine the detailed evidence required from parties, and to persevere with lines of enquiry when responses from parties are ambiguous.
  • Sound judgement, strong analytical skills and teamwork.
  • IT literacy with practical experience of Windows applications and good keyboard skills.
