Our team in Chicago is a small but mighty powerhouse of great talent. You will report directly to the VP of Engineering and create innovative products with a team of highly talented software engineers. We are customer-obsessed and provide opportunities to interact with our customers or just be a fly on the wall and listen to their feedback. We celebrate innovation and our stack is continually evolving. For example we are transitioning our deployment model to Kubernetes to allow us to scale our services.

As we’re sure you’d like to know, here’s a glance at our tech stack. Python and Django microservices with REST interfaces running in Kubernetes, AWS Lambdas, Elasticsearch and Postgres for indexing and storage, React on the frontend – all hosted in AWS which is managed via Terraform and Chef.
Job description & responsibilities
As the Senior Frontend Engineer, you will specialize in crafting a world-class experience for our customers. We’re looking for people who empathize with users and take pride in solving problems through elegant interactions. You will be responsible for building and designing delightful UIs and data visualizations for our data-heavy platform.
The Senior Frontend Engineer will work with the product design and engineering team to solve problems and should be able to own projects from design through to implementation. They will also mentor other engineers in design and frontend development skills.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years in a front-end development role.
- Strong understanding of usability and visual design.
- Experience building front-end platforms and designing UIs.
- Expert level understanding of Javascript, CSS, and at least one UI framework (we currently use React).
- Strong experience with at least some of the following – Webpack, Babel, SCSS, Flow.
- Ability to propose solutions at each level of the full tech stack.
- Expertise in writing well-tested JavaScript.
- Strong communication skills and a passion for mentoring.
- Strong attention to detail, understanding that they matter.
- Can work both independently and with a team of peers.
- Ability to build quickly within an agile team structure.
- Ability to understand business goals, recognize client needs, and link them to specific technical solutions.
- Inventiveness and openness in problem-solving.
Preferred qualifications
- Familiarity with AWS and CI tools a plus.
- Familiarity with D3.js and/or Highcharts.
- Familiarity with Figma a plus
