Overall Responsibilities
The Senior Financial Analyst, Operational Finance will be a crucial contributor to the financial planning, reporting and monthly close activities relevant to Canadian operations. This includes, plant operations, purchasing, supply chain, and contract manufacturing. This individual will be an active contributor to our product costing, the setting and evaluation of standard costs, the valuation and completeness of inventories, along with the forecasting and reporting of both operational and
commercial variances.
This role will act as a strategic partner to many departments, including, but not limited to, production, quality, inventory control & supply chain, distribution and procurement, contract manufacturing sales team, and provide the necessary financial support for the organization to make optimal decisions that lead towards achieving our strategic objectives.
Specific Key Responsibilities & Duties
1) Budgeting & Reforecasting:
o Support the financial planning, contract manufacturing, and operational teams in the budgeting and reforecasting process
o Support the procurement team on the impact of changes to the cost of our raw
materials and packaging components
o Proactively quantify the financial impact of business initiatives, recommend options, and validate key assumptions
2) Operational Finance
o Prepare all supporting documents as required for finalizing inventories and production costs for the month
o Continuously seek opportunities to streamline the month end close process
o Support contract manufacturing with end-to-end costing and pricing strategy to launch new products and win new partnerships
o Actively review results and KPI’s with functional leaders and provide actionable
recommendations on risks and opportunities, including cost reduction initiatives
3) Variance Analysis
o Perform in-depth analysis of monthly, quarterly, and yearly results compared to prior periods, budgets, and forecasts.
o Ownership of various line items and accounts, providing explanations for variances and offer actionable recommendations for improvement
o Analyze work order variances and identify trends to drive continuous improvement and cost savings in our facilities
4) Stewardship of Working Capital
o Provide robust analysis and provide recommendations on decisions relating to inventory obsolescence
o Partner with operational leaders to evaluate capital investments based on business cases, innovation, and ROI assessments to manage risks, grow and optimize the company’s production processes
5) Act Like an Owner
o A strategic business partner providing meaningful financial information, professional judgement and insights for the Company’s manufacturing, procurement and distribution activities
o Be the financial lead in identifying and driving improved efficiencies and operating
results; Identify potential risks and upsides to financial targets based on an assessment
of forecasted sales and expected production
6) Special Projects
o Lead projects that are aligned with our long-term strategic objectives, for example
capacity expansion or subcontracting initiatives
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements
• Professional Accounting Designation (CPA), or in the process of obtaining the CPA designation
• Minimum three (3) years of accounting experience
• Finance experience relating to manufacturing/costing processes an asset
• Strong business acumen and a proven track record for delivering results
• Excellent time management skills (ability to multitask, be agile and manage deadlines and multiple cross-functional deliverables)
• Team player, collaborative, thrives in a fast paced and dynamic business environment
• Exemplary written and verbal communication skills to effectively present and interact with senior management and cross-functional partners
• Exceptional analytic and financial analysis skills, ability to dig into detail without losing sight of the big picture
• A passion for winning, a competitive nature and a drive for excellence and challenging the status quo
• Exceptional skills in Microsoft Office applications – an Excel expert
