ABOUT THIS ROLE:

In this role your focus will be ensuring accurate financial reporting for BETA.  You will be responsible for analyzing financial data, regulatory filings, and compliance with both GASB and GAAP and statutory reporting requirements.  This is an exempt position, paid semi-monthly.  This position allows telecommuting from home up to three days a week, but you must be a commutable distance to either our Alamo or Glendale, CA office.

 

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

GAAP & SAP Financial Reporting:

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement in statutory reporting processes
  • Perform reconciliations and analyses to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial statements
  • Stay updated on changes in GAAP & SAP accounting standards and ensure compliance with new regulations
  • Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards and policies
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external auditors to gather necessary information for financial reporting

 

General Reporting:

  • Assist in the preparation of reporting materials for board of directors, AM Best, and reinsurance meetings
  • Prepare other reporting materials as requested by the CFO

 

Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports, forecasts, and budgets
  • Identify key performance indicators and trends to assess the financial health of the organization

 

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve reporting processes
  • Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives

 

  • Ability to travel to other BETA offices and business partners as requested
  • Other duties as required

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or progress towards CPA to be completed within 18 months of hire required
  • Minimum 5 of years’ experience, inclusive of financial statement reporting and analysis required
  • Previous experience in public accounting preferable leading audit engagements
  • Strong understanding of GASB, GAAP and SAP
  • Previous experience in SAP and GAAP reporting, preferably in medical liability industry or other professional liability lines of business strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of insurance operations, loss reserves, reinsurance contracts, and investment accounting.
  • Basic understanding of accounting for retirement plans a plus
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, including ratio analysis, variance analysis, and financial modeling
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications

 

 

 

Hiring base salary range: $110,000-160,000/annually depending on experience

  • Note the amount listed is the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this position.
