Job Description

JOB TITLE: SR ENTERPRISE SERVICES ENGINEER (NETWORKING/SECURITY)

REPORTS TO:  SR. DIRECTOR, SERVICES

LOCATION: MILWAUKEE, WI

DATE:  January 2021

 

SUMMARY

The Sr. Enterprise Services Engineer (ESE) is an experienced technical resource responsible for developing and implementing end-to-end solutions to complex business networking and communications problems for new and existing clients.  The Sr. ESE will work on assisting our managed service customers, as well as respond to ad-hoc support requests.  The Sr. ESE is responsible for the entire lifecycle of an engagement (Onboarding to Decommission) to which they have been assigned.  The ability to own creation and process improvement, while properly and professionally manage customer expectations and calmly handle stressful and complex troubleshooting scenarios are requirements of this position.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Post-Sales Implementation and Operational Work

  • Provide assistance to managed service customers within the agreed-upon SLAs in our managed service contracts with them.
  • Design, implement and troubleshoot VPN connectivity between Meridian and customers.
  • Design, implement and troubleshoot other (non-VPN) forms of WAN connectivity between Meridian and customers.
  • Troubleshoot complex LAN/WAN infrastructure issues under stressful conditions.
  • Design and implement scalable and highly resilient LAN/WAN infrastructure solutions utilizing products from such manufacturers as Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, F5, Riverbed, HP, etc.
  • Design and implement perimeter and data security solutions including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, VPN’s, management access (RADIUS/TACACS/IAM), remote access, and monitoring tools.
  • Manage the entire lifecycle of an implementation engagement from Plan to Close successfully
  • Partner with a project team to implement a portion of an implementation engagement.
  • Ability to drive, contribute to, and adhere to process improvement by following established processes and assisting/owning the creation of additional processes.

 

Risk Management

  • Escalate issues to the Project Management Office and Sr. Director of Infrastructure | Collaboration Services before they jeopardize the success or financial viability of an engagement.
  •  Participate in quarterly meetings with the Infrastructure team to discuss recent engagements, challenges, and opportunities; incorporate improvements into the pre-sales process.

 

Communications

  • Manage cross-functional interdependencies.
  • Responsible for clear and timely communication to multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Responsible for communicating the details of an opportunity/engagement to both the business and technical teams.

 

Misc

  • Participate in a weekly on-call rotation every 3 weeks and willing to work outside of business hours when needed.
  • Ability to travel to Kenosha, WI, and Oakbrook, IL 2-3 times per month if needed.
  • Ability to travel to other parts of the US for 3-5 maintenance weekends per year.
  • Participate with the Project Management Office in project post mortems and collaborate on recommendations reports in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface at varying and appropriate levels of management.
  • Excellent customer relationship management skills.
  • Ability to break down technical concepts into business terms.
  • Strong team player with emphasis on soft skills and relationship building.
  • In-depth knowledge of numerous security technologies including firewalls, intrusion detection, VPN’s, remote access, and monitoring tools.
  • Significant, hands-on experience with design principles ensuring high availability, reliability, and security and the implementation of solutions relying on those principles.
  • Extensive knowledge of current IEEE networking standards and a fundamental understanding of future technologies.
  • Significant, hands-on experience with core distribution and access layer design and implementation strategies.
  • Experience with infrastructure costing and sizing, data center design, and DR planning.
  • Significant, hands-on experience with Cisco LAN/WAN networking and Internet hardware and software:
    • Cisco access switches, Cisco data center switches, Cisco wireless controllers and lightweight access points, and Cisco routers (ISR, ASR).
    • In-depth knowledge of numerous networking technologies including wireless (a, b, g, n), spanning-tree, routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP), various layer-2 and layer-3 LAN/WAN protocols (Ethernet/GigE/10GigE, PPP, HDLC, Frame-Relay, SONET, ATM, MPLS, etc.), load-balancing, content filtering, and monitoring tools.
  • Extensive experience with Palo Alto technology.
  • Proven ability to solve technical challenges under stressful conditions.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Well organized, thrive in a sense-of-urgency environment, leverage best practices, and innovate through any problem with a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and interruptions with minimal impact on productivity.
  • Demonstrate a high level of independent judgment and initiative; self-starter.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain both pre-and post-sales technical certifications from manufacturers (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, HP, etc.)

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • 8+ years’ experience as an IT professional, working hands-on designing, configuring, and installing network solutions (wireless, route/switch, and datacenter), with a demonstrated increase in responsibility over time.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business or IT-related field is preferred.
  • CCNP Cisco certifications required.
  • CCNA Security or higher level certification in Security is required.
  • PCNSE Palo Alto certification is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Including Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint, & Visio)
