Reporting to the Manager Tailings, the Senior Engineering Advisor, Tailings is the Qualified Professional responsible for the stewardship, stability, and safe operation of all tailings and water retaining structures at designated sites.

To be successful we require someone with strong interpersonal and communication skills, who is self-motivated, but can also collaborate and excel in a technical team based environment. Someone who is able to multi-task, has advanced analytical, problem solving, risk analysis, and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities:

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Ensure appropriate monitoring systems (TMS) are in place, conduct analysis of data, and produce timely recommendations
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, HSEC standards, and relevant guidelines
• Identify areas of continuous improvement and implement organizational change processes
• Ensure Construction vs Design Intent Verification (CDIV) process is in place
• Provide updates to operating, maintenance, and surveillance manuals, along with emergency preparedness and response plans, and other management system documents including OMS manual, TARP, and ERP
• Complete and submit monthly and annual reports to regulatory agencies, the Chair of the TWG, and the Corporate Manager of Environmental Performance
• Ensure Public Disclosure information is complete and available
• Develop and maintain conceptual closure plans with costs
• Conduct Tailings Technology identification, review, assessment, and support work
• Provide technical guidance, leadership, and training on tailings management related issues
• Work with the engineer of record to continuously improve and implement the quality assurance and control, construction monitoring, and dam surveillance programs

Qualifications:

• Degree in Geotechnical or other Geotechnical related subject area
• Registered, or able to register, as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia
• Minimum 10 years demonstrated ability working in design, monitoring, performance analysis, reporting, and stewardship of tailings or water dams and structures
• In depth knowledge of regulatory and standard methodology guidelines from the CDA, MAC, ICMM, and Global Tailings Standard
• Experience with dam inspections including DSR’s and DSI’s
• Project Management experience, including budgeting and costing, is an asset
