Full-Time Senior Engineer II – Wastewater

About the role:
The Sr. Utilities Engineer is responsible for support and oversight of operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and project activities on utility systems with strict adherence to global policies, site procedures, and industry practices at a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Social Circle, GA. The Sr. Engineer will provide technical support to operations, maintenance, manufacturing, automation, quality assurance, validation, reliability engineering, and project engineering. You will use engineering and management skills to safely resolve process problems, improve efficiency, reduce waste, and maximize production. You will report to the Utilities Engineering Manager.
How you will contribute:
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the equipment lifecycle of the site’s wastewater system; including pH neutralization, anaerobic and aerobic treatment processes, dissolved air floatation, dewatering centrifugation, and chemical feed systems.
- Partner with Environmental Health and Safety team and municipal wastewater authorities to review wastewater permit and permit compliance.
- Lead investigations and provide technical expertise for system upset conditions.
- Support daily operations of the wastewater system and equipment.
- Expected to make suggestions on improvement projects based on technical knowledge and lead site continuous improvement efforts.
- Collect data for use by the engineering and operations departments to ensure reliable operation of the wastewater systems.
- Manage system documentation including creation, review, updates, and approval of technical specifications, operating procedures, and system drawings.
- Help with training and preventative maintenance programs on system equipment.
- Support the planning projects by working in cross-functional teams as the utilities engineering representative.
- Manage medium-scale projects – create user requirements, scope of work, risk assessments, justification, cost estimates and implementing purchase order requisitions.
- Support and meet timeline and budget goals.
- Must be familiar with plant and divisional procedures as related to positional and department responsibilities and stay current with assigned training to ensure compliance with quality and safety programs.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement concerning increasing job knowledge and proficiency related to technical understanding and problem-solving capability.
- Stay current with biopharmaceutical industry best practices and technologies.
- Support information sharing and learning between team members.
- Manage contractors on projects.
- The Sr Utilities Engineer will be on-call to respond to plant-wide emergencies and manufacturing needs.
- Must follow safety rules and ensure compliance with GA state and federal OSHA / EPA regulation and laws.
What you bring to Takeda:
Education and Experience Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline is required (chemical, mechanical, biomolecular or civil).
- 2 – 6 years experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- State of Georgia Wastewater Treatment Operator License (Class III or higher).
Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
- Must have a basic knowledge of core principles in multiple engineering disciplines (fluid mechanics, chemical reactions, heat transfer, thermodynamics)
- Experience with the following equipment: tanks, pumps, variable frequency drives, blowers, and control valves.
- Basic knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), instrumentation (flow, pressure, temperature, level, conductivity.) and controls.
- Must be familiar with wastewater testing methods and interpreting data to make process decisions.
- Can provide solutions that reflect understanding goals and cost possible effects.
- Engage cross-functional teams and work as a collaborative team member.
- Must have respect for individuals and the diverse contributions of all.
Other Job Requirements
- We ask that you have a combination of office work and systems field support.
- Must be able to lift equipment and tools for troubleshooting weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Wear personal protective equipment (such as hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs) due to safety requirements in specific areas.
- No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish, or artificial fingernails worn in the manufacturing environment.
- Willing to work in cold and wet environments.
- Ability to provide on-call support, during nights, weekend or holidays coverage to support a 24×7 manufacturing operation.

Important Considerations

- Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.
- Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
- Work in a cold, wet environment.
- Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours.
- Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
