ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Senior Editor to help shape the voice of Uncommon Goods—through editing (naturally)  and innovative writing that pushes our brand forward. The right candidate for this role has the vision to take our cross-channel copy to new heights, and the follow through to ensure that the stories we tell are consistent with our brand personality, values, and company vision.

Are you a conceptual thinker who can also dig into the details? A sensitive, thoughtful editor who can coax the best out of any writer? A fearless conceptor who knows when it’s time to break the rules? An eager collaborator who doesn’t care where the great idea comes from? Then you just might be The One.

You’ll will work closely with the Copy Director, Senior Writer, and Creative Director to evolve our brand voice, while owning the organic social copy. You’ll also write across our other channels—work could range from new item copy to catalog headers to campaign headlines—with a special focus on editing new item copy. You will collaborate closely with the entire Creative team as well as the Merchandising and Marketing teams.

ABOUT YOU

Obviously, you love to write. You love to edit, too—and to use editing as a tool to help other writers learn and grow. You’re an imaginative problem-solver and you’re not afraid to question the status quo. You’re also a confident coach and mentor; your edits are thoughtful and constructive, and you lead by example. You are (at least somewhat) organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Oh, and you aren’t afraid to speak up when you have a great idea—which is often.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • With the Copy Director, Senior Writer, and Creative Director, help continue our voice rebranding and maintain it across all channels
  • Edit copy across all channels, with a focus on product copy
  • Own the organic social media voice and copy content, working with that team on ideation and planning
  • Work closely with Creative, Marketing, and Merchandising teams on various creative projects, including campaigns
  • Write, write, and write some more
  • See above and replace write with edit

  • Extensive experience with writing and editing organic social copy
  • Experience with branding/rebranding

  • Experience with writing product copy and/or content for retail is a plus
  • Other plusses:

  • 40% discount on our products.
  • Professional development/educational reimbursement.
  • Public transportation and Citi Bike subsidies.
  • Safe working environment. Many of our COVID-19 protocols exceed NYC and NYS safety standards. Those who can are working remotely. In our office and warehouse, COVID-19 testing is required of all new hires and monthly for all team members; PPE, including masks and gloves, is required for all team members; and workspaces provide recommended social distancing.
